Description
The Dissent upper group is CMMG's clever answer to the buffer tube problem. Instead of running a recoil assembly back into the lower like a traditional AR pistol, the entire action and recoil system lives inside the upper receiver itself. That means no buffer tube sticking out the back, and a 1913 Picatinny rail end plate in its place so you can bolt on the brace or stock of your choice. The result is a 5.7x28mm build that's genuinely shorter and less bulky than anything you'd put together the old-fashioned way.
At the heart of it is CMMG's patent-pending Compact Action working alongside their proven Radial Delayed Blowback operating system with a fixed ejector. That combination gives you a softer recoil impulse and a lighter bolt than straight blowback guns, so the little 5.7 round feels even flatter and faster on follow-up shots. The 6.5" barrel wears a 1:9 twist and a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle capped with CMMG's Zeroed Linear Compensator, which pushes gas and concussion forward and keeps muzzle rise in check.
What Sets the Dissent MK4 Upper Apart
The forward non-reciprocating side charger is a favorite feature. It sits up front, doesn't move when the gun cycles, and lets you charge the action without breaking your sight picture. This one comes set up for left-side charging, though the design is built to be swapped side to side. Both the 7075-T6 receiver and the 4.60" M-LOK handguard wear a durable Armor Black Cerakote finish, giving you a clean, cohesive look plus plenty of room to hang lights, lasers, or a hand stop.
Building on the Dissent 5.7 Upper
Drop this onto any Mk4 or mil-spec AR-15 lower and feed it with CMMG's 5.7 AR Conversion magazines, which run in a standard AR lower and give you around 32 rounds while keeping last-round bolt hold-open. It ships complete with the bolt carrier group and end plate, so once it's on your lower and you've got mags, you're ready to head to the range.

Frequently Asked Questions
What lower does the Dissent MK4 5.7x28mm upper work with?
It's designed to drop onto any Mk4 or mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver. Because the entire action and recoil system lives inside the upper, you install the included 1913 Picatinny end plate where your buffer tube would normally go. That gives you a bufferless build with more stock and brace options than a traditional AR pistol.
What magazines feed the CMMG Dissent 5.7 upper?
This Mk4 platform version runs CMMG's 5.7 AR Conversion magazines, which fit in a standard AR-15 lower and hold around 32 rounds. They're built specifically to work with CMMG's 5.7x28mm Radial Delayed Blowback uppers and retain last-round bolt hold-open for faster reloads. Ten-round versions are also available if you need them.
What is the non-reciprocating side charger and why does it matter?
It's a forward-mounted charging handle that stays put when the gun cycles, so nothing is flying back toward your face or hand while you shoot. This lets you charge the action and clear malfunctions without coming off target. This upper is set up for left-side charging, and the design allows the charger to be swapped from side to side.
Does the Dissent MK4 upper come with a bolt carrier group?
Yes, it ships as a complete upper group with CMMG's proprietary bolt carrier group already inside. It also includes the Zeroed Linear Compensator and the 1913 Picatinny rail end plate. All you'll need to add is a compatible lower and 5.7 conversion magazines to get running.
