CMMG built the DISSENT BR4 to answer a question a lot of rifle owners have been asking: how do you get modern carbine performance in a more traditional rifle layout? Their solution was clever. Instead of the usual buffer tube setup, the BR4 runs CMMG's patented Compact Action, which houses the entire recoil system inside the upper receiver. That opens the door for the Magpul SGA shoulder stock you see on the back end, the same rugged 870-pattern stock trusted on countless shotguns. The result is a rifle-style carbine that still feeds from standard AR-15 pattern magazines and mounts optics on a full-length top Picatinny rail like any flattop AR.
This chambering is where the BR4 gets interesting. With supersonic loads for hunting and defense, plus heavy subsonic options that shine with a suppressor, .300 Blackout might be the most flexible .30 caliber round you can run through an AR-style platform. The 16.1-inch 4140CM barrel wears a salt bath nitride finish, spins bullets with a 1:7 twist, and comes threaded 5/8×24 with CMMG's ZEROED muzzle brake installed. Planning to run a can? The adjustable gas block lets you dial the system in for whatever ammo you feed it, so you're not stuck with an overgassed rifle when you switch to subsonics.
The reversible, non-reciprocating side charging handle keeps your firing hand in place while you work the bolt, and the cross-bolt safety will feel familiar to anyone who grew up on pump shotguns and lever guns. Both receivers are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, the lower from billet, and the whole rifle wears a Cerakote Armor Black finish. A ZEROED single-stage drop-in trigger handles fire control duties, and the M-LOK handguard gives you plenty of room for lights, slings, and bipods.
