The Chip McCormick Match Grade 8-round magazine takes the proven USGI-style fixed-base 1911 design and dials in the details that matter. It's built for full-size Government and Commander 1911s chambered in .45 ACP, and it earns its "Match Grade" name through tighter manufacturing and refined internals that keep rounds feeding the way they should, mag after mag.
This one comes from the folks at CMC Products, the company behind the legendary Shooting Star magazines that have been a 1911 staple since the '80s. The Match Grade uses an improved follower and reworked feed-lip geometry to smooth out feeding, and the whole thing is held to die-controlled tolerances of plus or minus .001 inch. That's roughly 75 percent tighter than what you'll find on typical mil-spec magazines, and it shows up in consistency once you're on the range.
The internal spring is made from aerospace-grade rocket wire, so it holds tension over the long haul and keeps the follower doing its job. The body is stainless steel with a welded base plate for real durability, and it's drilled to accept an optional base pad if you like a little extra grip when you slam a fresh mag home. The stainless finish also shrugs off the everyday moisture and handling that comes with a working pistol.
Large witness holes run up the side and they're numbered, so you can eyeball exactly how many rounds you've got loaded without pulling the mag or counting by feel. It's a small touch that pays off at the bench, in a class, or anytime you want to top off without guessing. It's designed for full-size 1911 Government pistols chambered in .45 ACP. Full-size covers the traditional USGI frame, which includes both 5-inch Government and 4.25-inch Commander length models. If your 1911 runs standard full-size .45 mags, this one will drop right in.
No, this version ships with a flush welded base plate rather than a base pad attached. The body is drilled to accept an optional base pad if you decide you want one later. That gives you the flush-fit look out of the box with the option to add grip down the road.
