CMC has been building drop-in AR trigger groups since 2003, and the Combat Curve 2.5 lb (part 90701) is one of their most popular takes on a match-grade single-stage. The whole fire control group ships as one sealed cassette, so there's no wrestling with loose springs, pins, or a hammer that wants to fly across the bench. You drop it into the lower, set the pins, do your safety check, and you're back to shooting.
The CCT bow is the interesting part. CMC took the comfortable feel of a classic curved trigger and combined it with the finger indexing of their signature flat trigger, giving you a shape that fills the pad of your finger while still letting you land in the exact same spot shot after shot. The result is a smooth take-up into an ultra-clean break, a short positive reset, and a quick lock time. That 2.5 lb pull came out of demand from top competitive 3-Gun shooters who wanted something lighter without giving up reliability.
CMC machines the critical sear engagement surfaces with a proprietary process that gets them down to a 1-2 RMS finish, which is a big step above the pitted finish left by the EDM process a lot of competitors use. That surface quality and dimensional control are a large part of why these break so cleanly and hold up. The trigger wears a black finish and is built in Texas.
Most AR-15 and AR-10 rifles use a small pin at .154 inches, and this kit is the standard small-pin configuration. The exception is a Colt built between 1991 and late 2009, which typically runs a large .172 pin, or a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 that needs the composite pin. If you're unsure, press a pin partway out of your receiver and measure it. When you set the retaining pins, keep the pinset screws snugged to no more than 12 in-lbs and a dab of thread locker keeps everything put.
This is the standard small-pin version, so it drops right into the vast majority of AR-15 and AR-10 rifles, which use the .154 inch pin. The main exceptions are Colt rifles made between 1991 and late 2009, which take a large .172 pin, and the S&W M&P 15-22, which needs a composite pin. If you're not sure, push a pin partway out of your lower and measure the diameter before ordering.
It's about as easy as an AR upgrade gets. The entire fire control group is one self-contained cassette, so you set it in the lower, install the retaining pins, and run a function and safety check. No loose springs or hammers to fight, and most folks have it done in a few minutes with basic tools.
It's a crisp single-stage break with very little take-up and a clean, predictable release right at 2.5 pounds. The reset is short and positive, and lock time is quick, so it's well suited to precision and competition-style shooting. That light weight is where CMC landed after feedback from top 3-Gun competitors.
The Combat Curve, or CCT, is a hybrid shape. It keeps the comfortable feel of a traditional curved trigger while adding the consistent finger indexing you get from a flat trigger, so your finger lands in the same place every shot. It's a good middle ground if you like a curved face but want more repeatable placement.
