Description

The math on this rifle is hard to argue with. Federal built the 7mm Backcountry to hit 3,000 fps with 170 grain bullets out of a 20 inch barrel, and Christensen Arms built the Ridgeline FFT to carry that barrel up a mountain without punishing you for it. Put the two together and you get a rig that weighs in around 5.3 pounds bare, wears a suppressor like it was born for one, and still delivers the kind of downrange energy that used to require a long, heavy magnum.

What Makes the Ridgeline FFT Different

The FFT in the name stands for Flash Forged Technology, Christensen's method of building a carbon fiber stock as a monocoque shell instead of stuffing a traditional composite full of filler. The result cuts up to a full pound compared to the standard Ridgeline while staying stiff where a stock needs to be, with carbon fiber bedding pillars, spot bedding, and an integrated recoil pad. The 416R stainless barrel is wrapped in aerospace grade carbon fiber, button rifled with a 1:8 twist, free floated, and finished with a match chamber. A removable stainless side-baffle brake comes threaded onto the 5/8×24 muzzle, and you will appreciate it on a rifle this light.

A 7mm Backcountry Rifle Built for the Long Walk In

The action rides the familiar Remington 700 footprint, so scope bases and aftermarket support are everywhere. A TriggerTech trigger breaks clean and crisp, the spiral fluted bolt runs smooth, and the whole package is backed by Christensen's Sub-MOA guarantee. Capacity is 4+1, which is one of the quiet perks of the 7mm Backcountry's slimmer case compared to fat magnum brass.

Burnt Bronze and Barren Dune, Ready for Elk Country

The Burnt Bronze Cerakote metalwork over the brown Barren Dune stock gives this one a warm, earthy look that blends into sage and rimrock country. This is the setup for the hunter who counts ounces on the way in and wants full confidence when a bull steps out at distance. Add glass, zero it, and go hunt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 20 inch barrel long enough to get the most out of 7mm Backcountry?

That is exactly the point of this cartridge. Federal designed 7mm Backcountry around its Peak Alloy steel case, which handles pressures up to 80,000 psi and drives 170 grain bullets to roughly 3,000 fps from a 20 inch barrel. You get magnum-class performance in a rifle that stays short and handy, especially with a suppressor attached.

Can I run a suppressor on the Ridgeline FFT 7mm Backcountry?

Yes, the muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, which is the most common thread pitch for rifle suppressors and muzzle devices. The included side-baffle brake spins off so you can mount your can directly. The short 20 inch barrel keeps overall length manageable even with a suppressor in place.

How light is this rifle, and what makes it that light?

It comes in around 5.3 pounds before optics. Christensen gets there with a carbon fiber wrapped 416R stainless barrel and the Flash Forged Technology stock, a compression molded carbon fiber shell that drops up to a full pound versus a traditional composite stock. Even at that weight it stays rigid thanks to carbon bedding pillars and spot bedding.

What optics mounts work with the Ridgeline FFT?

The action is built on the Remington 700 footprint and comes drilled and tapped for standard Rem 700 style bases. That means nearly every ring and rail on the market will work, from lightweight two-piece bases to full-length Picatinny rails. No sights are included, so plan on adding glass before heading out.
