There's a reason the Ridgeline FFT keeps showing up on backcountry pack lists. At 5.3 pounds bare, this .300 WSM carries like a lightweight rimfire but hits with true magnum authority. Christensen Arms got there with Flash Forged Technology, their carbon fiber process that shaves up to a full pound off the standard Ridgeline by swapping in an FFT stock, carbon fiber hinged floor plate, and carbon bolt knob. When you're climbing at elevation with a week of gear on your back, every ounce you're not carrying matters, and this rifle gives plenty of them back.
The 20-inch barrel starts as 416R stainless steel, then gets wrapped in aerospace-grade carbon fiber. It's button rifled with a 1:10 twist, hand lapped, match chambered, and free floated for consistent harmonics shot after shot. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and wears a removable stainless side-baffle brake that takes real bite out of the .300 WSM's recoil, which is welcome in a rifle this light. Christensen backs the whole package with their Sub-MOA guarantee, so the accuracy isn't a hope, it's a promise.
The trigger is a TriggerTech, one of the best factory triggers going, breaking clean with no gritty take-up. The sporter-style FFT carbon stock features stainless bedding pillars for a solid action fit, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700 pattern bases, so mounting glass is simple. Rounds feed from an internal magazine with a 3+1 capacity in this magnum chambering, topped with that FFT hinged floor plate for quick unloading. A two-position safety and enlarged ejection port round out the action.
The short magnum was practically made for a rifle like this. You get ballistics in the neighborhood of a .300 Win Mag from a short action and a handier 20-inch tube, keeping overall length at 41.5 inches. For elk timber, sheep country, or long walks after mule deer, this combination of weight, power, and packability is tough to beat.
Yes. Christensen Arms backs the Ridgeline FFT with their Sub-MOA guarantee, meaning it's built to print groups under one inch at 100 yards with quality ammunition. The hand-lapped, match-chambered, free-floated barrel does the heavy lifting there. Like any precision rifle, it may prefer certain loads, so it's worth testing a few to find what it likes best.
This configuration comes in right around 5.3 pounds before optics. The Flash Forged Technology carbon fiber stock, floor plate, and bolt knob cut up to a full pound compared to the standard Ridgeline. That makes it one of the lightest .300 WSM rifles you can buy without stepping up to a titanium action.
You can. The side-baffle brake threads onto a standard 5/8×24 muzzle, so it comes off easily and any .30 caliber suppressor or thread protector with that pattern will screw right on. Just keep in mind the brake does a lot of recoil taming on a rifle this light, so expect a firmer push with it removed unless you're running a can.
The receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Remington 700 pattern bases using 6-48 screws, which is about as common a footprint as it gets. Any Rem 700 short action rail or two-piece base setup will work. That gives you a huge range of mounting options from just about every manufacturer.
