Most revolvers send the bullet out of the top chamber, which puts all that .357 Magnum recoil energy high above your grip. The Chiappa Rhino does the opposite. It fires from the bottom of the cylinder, putting the bore almost in line with your forearm. The result is a revolver that pushes straight back instead of flipping up, so magnum loads feel far more manageable and your sights settle back on target quicker between shots. Once you run a cylinder through one, standard wheelguns start feeling top heavy.
This is the single action version of the famous Rhino platform, and the trigger benefits from it. The hammer spur you see is really a cocking lever for the fully enclosed internal mechanism, with a visible indicator that shows when the gun is cocked. The hexagonal cylinder trims width without giving up any of the six rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special it holds. The frame is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, keeping the whole package around 33 ounces despite the 6 inch barrel, and there is a rail under the barrel shroud if you want to hang a light or laser on it.
The bright nickel plating paired with medium walnut grips makes this one of the best looking Rhinos in the lineup, but the sights are pure function. You get a red fiber optic up front and a green fiber optic rear that adjusts for both windage and elevation, so you can dial it in for your preferred load. That 6 inch barrel wrings full velocity out of magnum ammunition and stretches the sight radius for precise work at distance, which makes this a natural fit for target shooting, steel plates, or just turning heads at the local range.
Chiappa ships this one with three moon clips and a removal tool, which speeds up loading and unloading noticeably. Between the low bore axis, the crisp single action trigger, and the adjustable sights, this is a magnum revolver you can shoot all afternoon without your wrist filing a complaint.
It makes a noticeable difference. Because the Rhino fires from the bottom chamber, the bore sits nearly in line with your wrist and forearm, so recoil pushes straight back instead of rotating the muzzle upward. Full power .357 Magnum loads still have some thump, but muzzle flip is dramatically reduced compared to a conventional revolver, and follow-up shots come quicker.
Yes. Like most .357 Magnum revolvers, the Rhino 60SAR happily runs .38 Special, which makes for cheaper and softer shooting practice sessions. Combined with the low bore axis design, .38s out of this gun feel remarkably gentle.
Not in the traditional sense. The external spur is a cocking lever that operates a fully enclosed internal hammer, and it returns to its resting position after cocking. A cocked indicator on the frame lets you see the internal hammer status at a glance, and the design keeps the profile snag resistant.
The included moon clips hold all six rounds together so you can load and unload the cylinder in one motion, similar to using a speedloader. Chiappa includes three clips plus a removal tool for popping spent cases off. You can also load rounds individually without clips if you prefer.
