Most snub-nose revolvers make you pay for every .357 Magnum round with a healthy dose of muzzle flip. The Chiappa Rhino 200D takes a different approach. Instead of firing from the top chamber like a traditional wheelgun, the Rhino fires from the bottom of the cylinder, which drops the bore axis down almost level with your hand and wrist. Recoil pushes straight back into your arm instead of rotating the muzzle skyward, so follow-up shots come quicker and full-power magnum loads feel far more civilized than the 2-inch barrel would suggest.
This 200D model is the double action only version, which means a fully enclosed firing mechanism and no external hammer spur to hang up on a cover garment. The frame is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, keeping the whole package around 24 ounces, and the flat-sided hexagonal cylinder trims width where it matters most for inside-the-waistband carry. Even with that slim profile you still get six rounds of .357 Magnum on tap, one more than most small-frame snubbies, and you can run .38 Special through it when you want lighter practice sessions. A red fiber optic front sight paired with a trench-style rear gives you a fast, uncluttered sight picture, and the small black rubber grips soak up recoil while keeping the printing to a minimum.
Chiappa doesn't send this one out bare. In the box you get a leather holster, three moon clips, and a removal tool, so you're set up for carry and quick reloads right out of the gate. Moon clips are a nice touch on a defensive revolver since they drop all six rounds in at once instead of feeding chambers one at a time.

Yes. Like most .357 Magnum revolvers, the Rhino 200D also chambers .38 Special, including +P loads. Plenty of owners run .38s for practice and load .357 for carry, which keeps range sessions comfortable and affordable.
DAO stands for double action only, meaning every trigger pull both cocks and releases the internal hammer. The 200DS adds an external cocking lever that lets you stage a lighter single action pull. The 200D skips that lever entirely for a cleaner, snag-free profile that's better suited to drawing from concealment.
The difference is noticeable. Because it fires from the bottom chamber of the cylinder, the bore sits nearly in line with your wrist and forearm, so recoil drives straight back instead of flipping the muzzle up. Full-power magnum loads still have push, but the gun stays much flatter, and follow-up shots come faster than with a traditional snubbie.
No, the Rhino has a conventional ejector star, so .357 Magnum and .38 Special rounds work fine without clips. The three included moon clips just speed up reloads by dropping all six rounds in at once, and the included tool makes loading and unloading the clips easy.
