Description

Some guns try to do everything. The Big Badger does one thing really well: it goes where bulkier long guns can't. Chiappa took the formula that made the Little Badger a cult favorite and scaled it up to .410 bore with a 3-inch chamber, giving you enough payload for rabbits, squirrels, grouse, pests around the property, or snakes on the trail. Fold it in half and the whole package shrinks to roughly 19.25 inches long, small enough to ride in a backpack, behind a truck seat, in a boat locker, or strapped to a four-wheeler. At around 5.3 pounds, you'll barely notice it until you need it.

What Makes the Big Badger Work in the Field

The 20-inch smoothbore barrel uses the Beretta/Benelli Mobilchoke system and ships with a modified tube installed, so you can tune your pattern for whatever's on the menu. A fiber optic front sight lines up with a groove machined into the top rail for quick, simple aiming, and if you'd rather run a red dot, the forend carries Picatinny rails top and bottom plus M-LOK slots at 3 and 9 o'clock for lights or other accessories. The manually cocked hammer offers a half-cock position, an automatic extractor kicks spent hulls loose, and a crossbolt safety adds another layer of control.

Built Simple, Built to Be Carried

The skeletonized steel wire stock is the heart of this gun's low weight, and Chiappa didn't leave it bare bones. An adjustable comb lets you set your cheek weld where you want it, and a rubber recoil pad takes the edge off, not that .410 has much edge to begin with. That soft-shooting nature makes the Big Badger a great trainer for new shooters and younger hunters, too.

There's not much to break on a single shot break-action, and that's the point. Load it, cock it, and it works. For a kept-in-the-truck gun, a small game getter, or the shotgun that lives in your emergency kit, the Big Badger earns its spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What choke tubes does the Chiappa Big Badger .410 use?

The Big Badger's 20-inch smoothbore barrel accepts Beretta/Benelli Mobil pattern choke tubes, and a modified tube comes installed from the factory. That means finding additional constrictions is easy since Mobilchoke is one of the most common thread patterns out there. Swap to a full choke for tighter patterns on small game or open it up for closer work.

How small is the Big Badger when folded?

Folded in half, it measures roughly 19.25 inches long by 6 inches wide, basically the length of the barrel itself. At about 5.3 pounds, it stows easily in a backpack, behind a truck seat, in a boat, or on an ATV. That packability is the main reason people buy this gun.

Can I mount a red dot or other accessories on the Big Badger?

Yes. The forend has Picatinny rails on top and bottom plus M-LOK slots at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, so a compact red dot, light, or sling mount goes on without any gunsmithing. If you prefer irons, the fiber optic front sight pairs with a groove in the top rail that serves as the rear sight.

Does the Chiappa Big Badger shoot both 2.5 inch and 3 inch .410 shells?

It has a 3-inch chamber, so it handles both 2.5-inch and 3-inch .410 shotshells. The 3-inch option gives you more payload for small game and pest control, while 2.5-inch loads keep recoil feather light. Either way, the rubber recoil pad and adjustable comb keep it comfortable to shoot.
