The whole gun wears a matte stainless finish, barrel, cylinder, and frame, so it shrugs off sweat, rain, and holster wear better than blued steel ever will. The traditional double action and single action trigger with an exposed hammer lets you run it fast in double action or cock it for a light, crisp single action break when precision counts. Yes. Like any revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, the Professional VI safely fires .38 Special and .38 Special +P ammunition. That makes practice a lot more pleasant on the hands and the wallet, and plenty of owners keep it loaded with .38 +P defensive rounds for a softer-shooting option.
Most Charter magnums are five-shot compacts, but the Professional VI is built on the larger Bulldog XL frame, which lets it hold six rounds of .357 Magnum. It also wears a longer 4.2 inch barrel with a full underlug, so it points and shoots more like a traditional mid-frame service revolver while still coming in noticeably lighter than most all-steel competitors.
At around 25 ounces it splits the difference nicely. It is light enough to belt-carry in the field or on the trail without dragging your pants down, but the 4.2 inch barrel gives you a sight radius and velocity that make range sessions and home defense duty genuinely practical.
