There's a reason the .32 H&R Magnum keeps winning people over, and the Charter Arms Professional is a big part of it. You get seven rounds in the cylinder instead of the usual five or six, recoil that stays mild even in a 22-ounce gun, and ballistics that hold their own against a .38 Special snub. Charter Arms developed this one with input from the editorial staff at Concealed Carry Magazine, and it shows. The 3-inch barrel gives the .32 a little extra velocity to work with compared to a 2-inch tube, and the extra sight radius doesn't hurt either.
The frame, cylinder, and barrel are stainless steel treated with Charter's Blacknitride+ process, a tough surface finish that shrugs off holster wear, sweat, and everyday handling far better than traditional bluing. Add a shrouded ejector rod and three-point cylinder lock-up and you've got a wheelgun built for real use, not just the display case. At 7-13/16 inches overall, it rides comfortably on the belt without feeling like a toy in the hand.
The DA/SA action gives you options: run the exposed hammer for a light, crisp single action press, or work the trigger straight through in double action. The neon-green LitePipe front sight jumps out against the fixed rear notch, so getting on target is quick even in dim light. The contoured walnut grips look sharp and fill the hand nicely, giving you real purchase without adding bulk. And because the chamber accepts .32 S&W Long, you can run soft-shooting practice loads all day and save the magnums for carry.
For new revolver owners, recoil-sensitive folks, or anyone who wants two extra rounds over a typical snub without extra weight, the Professional is a smart pick. Yes. Since it's chambered in .32 H&R Magnum, it will also safely fire .32 S&W Long and .32 S&W Short. Those lighter loads are a great way to get new or recoil-sensitive folks comfortable behind the gun before stepping up to magnum loads. It is not chambered for the longer .327 Federal Magnum, so don't try to run those.
It's a more capable round than many people give it credit for. Out of the Professional's 3-inch barrel, quality .32 H&R Magnum loads perform in the same neighborhood as .38 Special from a 2-inch snub, but with noticeably less recoil. You also get seven rounds instead of five, which is a meaningful bump in capacity for a carry revolver this size.
It's a traditional DA/SA revolver with an exposed spur hammer. You can fire it double action with a straight trigger pull, or cock the hammer first for a lighter, crisper single action break. The double action pull smooths out nicely with some break-in time.
Very well. Blacknitride+ is a surface treatment applied over the stainless steel frame, cylinder, and barrel, and it resists holster wear, moisture, and corrosion better than traditional blued finishes. Combined with the 22-ounce weight and compact frame, it makes the Professional a solid choice for daily carry.
