There is something to be said for a revolver you can drop in a pack and forget about until you need it. The Charter Arms Pathfinder Lite weighs right around 16 ounces thanks to its 7075 aircraft grade aluminum frame, yet it holds eight rounds of .22 WMR in a double fluted stainless steel cylinder. That is three more rounds than the typical small frame .38, in a gun that takes up the same amount of space. Pair that with a 2 inch stainless barrel and a matte black anodized frame, and you have a rimfire wheelgun built for real world carry, whether that means a hip holster on a hike or a spot in your tackle box.
The .22 Magnum cartridge steps up nicely over standard .22 LR, running flatter and hitting harder, which makes this a solid choice for pest control, small game, and general woods duty. Recoil is barely a tap, so follow up shots come easy and long range sessions stay fun instead of fatiguing. The full size checkered rubber grip fills the hand well, and the traditional double action/single action trigger gives you options: run it double action for quick work, or thumb back the grooved hammer for a crisp, light single action break when precision matters.
Charter Arms builds the Pathfinder Lite on a one piece frame with no side plate, a design the company has used since the 1960s, and every one is made in the USA. A transfer bar keeps the gun from firing unless the trigger is pulled, so there is no manual safety to fumble with. The fixed sights are snag free and always zeroed, exactly what you want on a gun this size.
Beyond trail duty, the Pathfinder Lite makes a great teaching gun. The mild report and soft recoil let newer folks focus on fundamentals instead of flinching, and the simple load, shoot, eject routine of a revolver is about as approachable as handguns get. Charter backs it with their lifetime warranty, which is a nice bit of peace of mind on a working gun.
No, this model is chambered for .22 WMR only. The .22 LR case is a different diameter than .22 Magnum, so firing it in a WMR cylinder can cause split cases and poor accuracy. Stick with any quality factory .22 WMR load and this revolver will run happily.
It weighs right around 16 ounces thanks to the aluminum frame and double fluted cylinder. That makes it easy to pocket in a jacket, ride in a pack, or sit on your hip during a full day outdoors without weighing you down. It is roughly the same footprint as a small frame .38 revolver while holding eight rounds instead of five.
It is one of the better starter wheelguns out there. The .22 Magnum produces very light recoil and mild muzzle blast, so new folks can work on grip, sight alignment, and trigger control without developing a flinch. The double action/single action trigger also lets beginners start with easy single action shots and work up from there.
There is no manual safety lever to operate. Instead, Charter Arms uses a transfer bar system, which physically prevents the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pulled. It is a simple, proven design that keeps operation straightforward while staying drop safe.
