Description

Charter Arms took two of their best sellers, the Mag Pug and the Pit Bull, and rolled them into one seriously versatile package. The Double Dog ships with two cylinders: a .357 Magnum cylinder that also handles .38 Special, and a 9mm cylinder built with Charter's patented extractor system that grips the case rim so you never have to fuss with moon clips. Both cylinders are laser engraved with their calibers, so there's no guessing which one is in the gun. Swapping between them takes about a minute with a single crane screw, and Charter even throws extra crane screw washers in the box.

Why the Double Dog Mag Pug Combo Makes Sense

The appeal here is flexibility. Load full house .357 Magnum for serious protection, drop to .38 Special when you want a softer session, or swap to the 9mm cylinder and burn through the cheapest, most available centerfire ammo on the shelf. If your ammo stash runs low in one caliber, you've got two more to fall back on. It's a smart setup for new revolver owners learning the fundamentals and for seasoned wheelgun folks who like keeping range time affordable.

A 4.2 Inch Barrel Built for the Range

This model 13942 wears the longer 4.2 inch ported barrel with diamond cut lightening details in the underlug, finished in black passivate over a stainless steel frame and cylinder. The porting tames muzzle rise, the extra sight radius helps you wring out accuracy, and the smooth walnut Backpacker grips fill the hand nicely at around 26 ounces. It runs as a traditional double action/single action with an exposed hammer, and a transfer bar safety lets you carry all five chambers loaded with confidence.

Charter Arms Quality, Made in the USA

Charter Arms has been building rugged, affordable revolvers in Connecticut for over 60 years, and every one of them carries a transferable lifetime warranty. The Double Dog carries on that tradition with a genuinely useful twist that few revolvers in its class can match.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you switch cylinders on the Charter Arms Double Dog?

With the gun unloaded and the action open, remove the single crane screw on the front of the frame, slide the cylinder and crane assembly out, drop in the other cylinder, and tighten the screw back down. The whole swap takes about a minute with a flathead screwdriver. Charter includes spare nylon crane screw washers in the box, and you can get more directly from them if you swap often.

Does the 9mm cylinder require moon clips?

No, and that's one of the best parts of this revolver. Charter Arms uses a patented extractor star with spring loaded detents that grip the 9mm case at the extraction groove, so rounds headspace correctly and eject cleanly without clips. That means nothing extra to lose, bend, or fumble with at the range.

Can the Double Dog Mag Pug shoot .38 Special too?

Yes. With the .357 Magnum cylinder installed, it safely fires both .357 Mag and .38 Special, including +P loads. Add the included 9mm cylinder and you have three caliber options in one five shot revolver, which is great for matching your ammo to the job or just shooting whatever is cheapest that week.

How does the 4.2 inch model differ from the 2.2 inch Double Dog?

The 4.2 inch version weighs about 26 ounces versus 22 for the snub, and it wears smooth walnut Backpacker grips. The longer ported barrel gives you a longer sight radius and squeezes more velocity out of magnum loads, making it the better pick for range work, target shooting, and home protection, while the 2.2 inch model leans more toward concealed carry.
