There are not many revolvers with a story like the Bulldog. Charter Arms introduced it back in 1973, and it went on to become one of the best-selling wheelguns of the 70s and 80s. The idea was simple and it still holds up today: take the big-bore .44 Special cartridge and put it in a snubnose package light enough to carry every day. This model 14420 is the classic version of that formula, wearing a blued finish over the frame, cylinder, and barrel with a black finger-grooved rubber grip.
At roughly 21 ounces with a 2.5 inch barrel, the Bulldog hits a sweet spot that few revolvers manage. The .44 Special delivers close to twice the muzzle energy of a .38 Special, so you are getting a serious step up in power without a serious step up in bulk. It has more push than a .38 snub, but the .44 Special is a moderate-pressure cartridge, so it is a firm shove rather than a sharp snap. Standard pressure loads are very manageable for regular practice.
