The 601 Sport is Charles Daly's take on a do-a-little-of-everything 12 gauge, and it covers a lot of ground for the money. At its core is a gas-operated action that cycles 2-3/4 and 3-inch shells while soaking up a good chunk of recoil, which your shoulder will appreciate by the third box of shells at the clays course. The 28-inch barrel is chrome lined for easier cleanup and long-term durability, and the vent rib up top helps keep your eye tracking naturally to the fiber optic front bead when a bird flushes or a clay breaks left.
The receiver is machined from aluminum to keep the whole gun around 7.3 pounds, so it swings quick and carries easy on a long walk through the dove field. Charles Daly also milled a Picatinny rail into the top of the receiver, which is not something you see on many sporting semi-autos in this class. If you want to run a red dot for turkey season or just like having the option, it is already there waiting. The synthetic stock wears a pistol grip and a rubber recoil pad, and a recoil pad spacer comes in the box so you can tune length of pull to fit your build.
The barrel is threaded for the Beretta/Benelli Mobil choke pattern, one of the most common thread systems out there, so finding aftermarket tubes is simple. Improved Cylinder and Full chokes ship with the gun along with a choke wrench, covering you from close-in skeet birds to longer pass shooting. Capacity runs 5+1 with standard loads, and the matte black finish keeps things low-key and easy to maintain. With the included hard case, this is one of the more complete out-of-the-box packages you will find in an entry-level semi-auto 12 gauge.
Yes, the 601 Sport has a 3-inch chamber and its gas system is built to run both 2-3/4 and 3-inch loads. Like most gas-operated semi-autos, it tends to run most reliably with loads carrying a bit of authority, so very light target loads may need a short break-in period. Once it has a few boxes through it, it settles in nicely.

That means tubes from Carlson's, Briley, TRUGLO, and plenty of other aftermarket makers will screw right in. Improved Cylinder and Full chokes plus a wrench come standard in the box.
You can, and no gunsmithing is required. The aluminum receiver comes with an integrated Picatinny rail on top, so a red dot or other rail-mount optic bolts straight on. If you prefer shooting it the traditional way, the vent rib and fiber optic front sight work great on their own.
