There's something about steel that paper just can't match. You hear the clang, you see the swing, and you know instantly you connected. The Champion 44924C Impact Steel Animal Targets 4 Pack leans into exactly that, giving you four orange steel critter silhouettes shaped like a Prairie Dog, Coyote, Cougar, and Bear. Each one has a center hole for easy hanging, so you can string them up on a chain, wire, or a dedicated hanger and start dinging without a lot of fuss.
These are cut from 1/4-inch AR500-comparable steel, which is the same tough stuff serious range plates are made from. That construction is why they hold up to 22LR round after round instead of denting or punching through like cheaper steel. The high-visibility orange powder coating is a nice touch too, making the animals easy to pick out downrange even when the light gets flat or you're stretching things out a bit.
Because each animal is a different shape and size, you get built-in variety without buying four separate targets. New shooters can start on the bigger Bear and Cougar to build confidence, then work down to the smaller Coyote and Prairie Dog as their groups tighten up. It's a simple way to keep practice interesting and to challenge yourself as your accuracy improves.
Keep in mind these are rated for .22 rimfire only, so leave the centerfire rounds for your heavier steel. Used the way they're meant to be, this set will give you years of satisfying clangs and instant feedback that make trigger time a whole lot more fun than punching holes in paper.
These are rated for .22 LR rimfire only. Sticking to standard velocity or high velocity 22LR keeps the steel and the powder coating in good shape for the long haul. For anything centerfire, you'll want to move up to Champion's thicker centerfire-rated steel.
Each animal has a center hole drilled through it, so you can hang them from a chain, wire, S-hook, or a dedicated impact steel hanger. Many folks rig them up on a 2×4 or a simple frame and are shooting within a few minutes. Just make sure they can swing freely so they rock back and give you that satisfying feedback when you hit.
No, the Prairie Dog, Coyote, Cougar, and Bear are each a different shape and size. That variety lets you start on the larger silhouettes and work down to the smaller ones as your accuracy improves, which keeps practice sessions from getting stale.
They're built from 1/4-inch AR500-comparable steel, the same style of hardened plate used for durable range targets. That's what lets them shrug off repeated 22LR hits and keep ringing instead of denting or wearing out quickly.
