The Champion SkyBird 3/4-Cock Trap is a manual clay thrower built for people who want to run a lot of birds without wearing themselves out. Where a standard spring trap makes you fight the arm all the way back to the twelve o'clock position, the SkyBird uses a one-way clutch that stops the arm around eight o'clock after each throw. You reset by pulling it through just the last quarter of the arc, which cuts down the force and the reach needed between shots. That difference adds up fast when you're loading bird after bird all afternoon.
The tripod is the other half of the story here. It stands the trap up at waist height, so there's no bending over to load and no fighting to stake the thing into hard, dry dirt. You just plant the legs, drop a clay on the arm, and go. That stand-and-load height is easy on your back over a long session, and it makes the whole setup a lot friendlier for casual shooters and coaching new folks.
This is a versatile arm. It handles minis, midis, standards, rabbits, and even doubles or stacked doubles, sending them out to around 70 yards for consistent, challenging flights. Whether you want gentle straightaways for a beginner or fast crossers to sharpen up, you've got the range to mix it up. The string release gives you a safe way to trip the arm from off to the side, and you can run it with a foot release or a long thumb release depending on your preference.
It's a solid, no-batteries-needed choice for backyard practice, club days, or teaching the kids how to break a bird. Simple mechanism, waist-high convenience, and enough throwing variety to keep things interesting round after round.
A one-way clutch stops the throwing arm at roughly the eight o'clock position after each throw instead of letting the spring pull it all the way back to twelve. That means you only have to pull the arm through the last quarter of the arc to reset it. It takes less force and a much shorter reach than a standard spring trap, which is a big help over a long day of loading.
The arm is set up to handle minis, midis, and standard clays, along with rabbits and doubles or stacked doubles. That gives you plenty of ways to change up the presentation for different skill levels. Targets fly out to around 70 yards for consistent, challenging flights.
No. The tripod stands the trap at waist height and holds it steady without staking, so you don't have to fight hard or dry dirt to set it up. You just plant the legs, load standing up, and start throwing.
It uses a string release, so you can trip the arm safely from off to the side. You can run it with a foot release or a long thumb release depending on what feels natural to you. That setup keeps the shooter clear of the arm when the clay launches.
