Steel targets change the way you practice, and the Champion Centerfire Hanging Gong is a great way to get into them. The moment your round connects, you get that unmistakable ring instead of walking downrange to check paper. That instant feedback keeps you locked in and shows you exactly where your shots are landing, which is worth its weight in gold whether you're zeroing a rifle or running pistol drills.
The plate itself is a 9.5-inch round cut from 1/2-inch AR500 comparable steel, which is the hardened stuff built to shrug off repeated centerfire hits and keep its shape. It's rated for both pistol and rifle and can handle a range of calibers, so you're not stuck swapping targets every time you change guns. Just remember the basics that apply to any steel: keep your distances reasonable and use quality eye protection, since that hardened plate is what gives you years of use instead of a cratered mess.
One of the best parts here is the included stand. It's a sturdy steel setup with support arms that swivel to keep everything planted and stable while you shoot, and the whole thing goes together with no tools required. That means you can pull it out of the truck, have it standing in a couple of minutes, and get to shooting instead of fiddling with hardware in the dirt.
This is a genuinely versatile piece for anyone who spends time at the range. New shooters love the immediate confirmation of a good hit, and experienced folks appreciate having a durable reactive target that lasts season after season. Pair it with a box of ammo and you've got everything you need for a solid range day.
It's centerfire rated for both pistol and rifle, and the 1/2-inch AR500 comparable steel handles a range of calibers. As with any steel target, stick to sensible minimum distances for your caliber and always wear eye protection. That approach keeps the plate in good shape and keeps splatter headed the right direction.
The stand is included right in the box, so you're ready to shoot out of the gate. It's a steel stand with support arms that swivel to keep the target stable during a session. No separate purchase needed.
Setup is quick and requires no tools. You can have it standing at the range in a couple of minutes, which means more time shooting and less time messing with hardware. It breaks back down just as easily for transport.
It's one of the better ways to learn because you get instant audible feedback the moment you connect. That ring tells you right away that your shot landed without walking downrange to check. New and experienced folks both get plenty of use out of a reactive steel target like this one.
