CCI's VNT line was built with one goal in mind: total devastation on impact. This .17 HMR load pairs a Speer bullet with an extremely thin jacket and precision-engineered polymer tip that creates a flat trajectory and explosive terminal performance the moment your bullet connects. Whether you're clearing prairie dogs, raccoons, or other varmints at medium range, or looking to punch tight groups at the range, the VNT delivers the accuracy and stopping power you need.
The 17-grain projectile hits the mark at 2650 fps with 265 ft-lbs of energy, giving you the velocity to keep your shots clean and ethical out to about 150 yards. The lightweight bullet means minimal recoil, so follow-up shots are quick and natural. Clean-burning propellant keeps your action cleaner during extended shooting sessions, which matters when you're working hard out there.
The polymer tip serves double duty here. It protects the hollow-point bullet from moisture and helps stabilize flight for better long-range consistency. Real-world testing shows these rounds produce sub-MOA accuracy in quality rifles, making the VNT a legit choice if you care about precision. You're getting ammunition that shoots where you point it, which is what separates good from average when you've only got one shot at a moving target.
CCI's consistent priming and quality control mean reliable ignition even when conditions get rough. The nickel-plated brass cases handle themselves well and resist corrosion better than standard brass. Fifty rounds per box means you've got enough to hunt and practice without constantly restocking, and CCI backs up their reputation with ammunition that feeds smooth and functions reliable in both bolt-action and semi-automatic .17 HMR rifles.
The VNT load works in both bolt-action and semi-automatic .17 HMR rifles. Bolt-action rifles like the Savage 93R17 and CZ 452 are the most common, but if you have a semi-auto chambered in .17 HMR, this will run just fine.
This ammunition regularly produces sub-MOA groups in quality rifles, meaning you can expect tight clustering at 100 yards. The combination of thin jacket, polymer tip, and CCI's quality control makes it one of the better choices for precision varmint work.
The effective range is roughly 150 yards, though skilled shooters can push it out further with proper wind reading. The flat trajectory and high velocity help maintain energy and accuracy at distance compared to lighter rimfire loads.
The VNT works great for both. The accuracy and reliability make it suitable for range work and competition, though you'll want to budget accordingly since .17 HMR ammo costs more per round than standard .22 LR. Many shooters practice with it to build skills for their hunting season.
