These rounds are purpose-built for one job: putting down snakes and small pests in your yard, around your property, or in tight spaces where a traditional .45 ACP hollow point would be overkill and ricochet could be a problem. The rigid plastic shot capsule breaks apart as it travels down your barrel's rifling, and a flexible base wad keeps gas from leaking around the sides. That means you get a clean, tight pattern downrange and manageable recoil.
The real strength of these rounds is how they perform at their intended range. You're looking at devastating effectiveness out to about 10 to 15 feet, which is honestly where you'll encounter most snakes anyway. The #9 shot is fine enough to deliver a tight pattern without the risk of over-penetration that comes with a solid bullet. That matters when you're taking a quick shot in your driveway or around livestock. The brass loading is marked NR (non-reloadable), so you don't need to worry about sizing or prepping them once you're done.
These are semi-auto only. Don't use them in revolvers, and don't use them in any pistol with a ported barrel or ported recoil compensator. The plastic capsule can break inside the action if things aren't aligned right, which creates a mess to clean. They cycle reliably in most modern .45 ACP pistols, though cycling is never 100% guaranteed across every gun and every aftermarket setup out there. If you want to carry them as your first couple rounds (like some folks do), load them in the mag and test fire a few to make sure your specific gun handles them.
The 120 grains of #9 shot—roughly 210 lead pellets per round—creates a consistent spread that's tight enough to be lethal on small targets but opens up fast beyond your effective range. You'll see good results on rats, birds, snakes, and similar varmints when you're close. Farther than 15 feet and you're gambling. For your typical snake encounter, that range is plenty.
Cleanup is straightforward. Lead shot residue wipes out with normal gun cleaning. No special tools or procedures needed.
