CCI Big 4 shotshells are purpose-built for anyone dealing with snakes, rodents, and other small pests around property or worksites. Unlike conventional handgun shotshells loaded with fine #9 shot, the Big 4 uses larger #4 lead pellets to extend effective range and deliver more knockdown power on stubborn targets.

How Big 4 Shotshells Work

These rounds use a rigid plastic shot capsule that stays intact as the round travels through your cylinder and down the barrel. When the capsule hits your revolver's rifling, it shatters cleanly, releasing the pellets into a consistent pattern. This design does two important things: it protects your barrel from lead fouling that would otherwise come from loose shot spinning on the rifling, and it creates a tight, uniform pattern that's actually reliable at close range. The flexible base wad beneath the shot column prevents gas from bypassing the payload, keeping patterns dense where they matter.

Loaded to 1000 feet per second with an 84-grain payload, Big 4 rounds deliver 186 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. That's enough to reach out to about 15 feet effectively, making them genuinely more versatile than standard handgun shotshells. Built Right for Your Revolver

These work in both .357 Magnum and .38 Special revolvers since the shorter cases are compatible with .357 chambers. The aluminum cases are marked as non-reloadable for your safety, so treat them as one-time use. One note for folks with ultralight revolvers: the plastic capsule can shift slightly on recoil in very light guns, which could bind the cylinder on rare occasions. Full-size and medium-weight revolvers have no issues with these rounds.
