Carlson's tuned this one around Tungsten Super Shot loads, though it plays nicely with other premium turkey shells running smaller 7 through 9 shot as well.
TSS is dense stuff, roughly 56 percent heavier than lead and about 22 percent heavier than older tungsten blends, so it carries energy and holds a pattern in a way traditional shot never could. Because those pellets are hard and don't deform, a choke built for TSS is machined to a different spec than a full choke meant for lead or steel. The .640 constriction here is on the tighter end of Carlson's turkey lineup, which is exactly why it pairs so well with those small, dense TSS pellets and Federal's FliteControl Flex wad that lets you run just about any choke you like.
This tube is cut from 17-4 heat-treated stainless steel, which is the right material for the heavy, buffered pressure that modern turkey loads generate. The extended body sticks out about an inch past your muzzle and wears a knurled end, so you can spin it in and out by hand without digging around for a wrench. The matte black finish keeps glare down in the woods, which matters more than folks think when a longbeard is hanging up at the edge of a field.
One thing worth saying: no choke is magic on its own. Every barrel has its own bore diameter and preferences, so pattern this choke with a few different loads at 40 yards on a big sheet of paper and count your hits in a 10-inch circle. It's optimized for Tungsten Super Shot but handles lead, nickel and copper-plated, Bismuth, and Hevi-Shot turkey loads just fine, especially in smaller 7 through 9 shot. The one thing to avoid is steel shot, since this tight constriction isn't built for it. For the best results, stick with premium turkey loads and pattern a couple of options to see what your gun likes.
