Canik took everything that made the original SFx Rival a hit and built it on a forged steel frame, and the Dark Side version wraps the whole thing in a sharp all-black finish. The extra heft is the whole point here. At around 42.7 ounces, this pistol plants itself in your hands and stays flat through fast strings, letting you run doubles and transitions with a level of control that polymer guns have a hard time matching. The 5-inch barrel gives you a long sight radius and the velocity to make the most of 9mm, while the ported, serrated slide keeps the reciprocating weight down so the dot barely bounces.
No hunting for plates or waiting on an optic to ship. This package includes the MeCanik MO2 reflex sight from the factory, a 3 MOA dot that co-witnesses with the fiber optic front and adjustable rear sights. If you ever want to swap optics down the road, the slide ships with multiple plate interfaces to fit most popular footprints. The 90-degree flat-faced aluminum trigger breaks clean and resets short, and the fully ambidextrous controls and forward indexing points make it comfortable no matter which hand you run it with.
Canik has built a reputation on value, and the accessory kit here is a big part of that. Beyond the pistol and two 18-round magazines, you get aluminum base plates, an external competition mag well, a fitted holster, a mag loader, three backstraps, three mag release extensions, a punch and tool kit, a cleaning kit, and a water-resistant travel case to haul it all in. Most of that list would be aftermarket purchases with other brands.
This is a natural pick for USPSA and steel matches, but it's just as much fun as a dedicated range gun for anyone who wants a soft-shooting full-size 9mm with a dot on top. Load up 18+1, settle in behind that steel frame, and enjoy how quickly the dot comes back on target.

The steel-framed Rival-S comes in around 42.7 ounces, roughly a pound heavier than the polymer Rival. That extra weight is what makes it shoot so flat. Recoil feels softer, the dot settles faster, and quick follow-up shots are noticeably easier during long range sessions or match stages.
That's exactly what it's built for. Between the flat-faced aluminum trigger, ported slide, flared mag well, ambidextrous controls, and the included holster, mag loader, and spare mags, you can realistically show up to a USPSA or steel match with nothing else but ammo. It's one of the most complete factory competition packages available.
It uses Canik full-size 9mm magazines and comes with two 18-rounders plus a pair of aluminum base plates. Standard full-size Canik mags are widely available and affordable, so building up a match-day supply won't break the bank.
