There is a reason the SFX Rival-S turned so many heads when Canik released it. Take the Rival platform that was already winning matches, swap the polymer frame for solid steel, and suddenly you have a pistol that sits flat under recoil and lets you stack fast follow-up shots without fighting the gun. This chrome and rosewood version is the looker of the lineup too, with warm wood grip panels against a bright finish that stands out on any firing line.
At roughly 2.7 pounds unloaded, the Rival-S has the heft competitive pistols are built around. The 5-inch barrel and ported, serrated slide work with that weight to keep muzzle rise to a minimum, and the 90-degree aluminum flat trigger breaks clean and resets short. Ambidextrous controls, forward indexing points, aggressive texturing, and a flared external magwell round out a control layout clearly designed by people who shoot matches. A full-length Picatinny rail up front handles lights or weights if you want to tune the balance further.
Out of the box you get a fiber optic front sight paired with a fully adjustable competition rear, which is a genuinely usable setup on its own. When you are ready for a red dot, the optics-ready slide cut and included plate system cover most popular micro footprints with co-witness capability, so you are not hunting down adapters before your first match.
Canik does not nickel and dime you on the extras. Two 18-round magazines, aluminum base plates, a mag loader, external magwell, holster, five optic plates, mag release extensions, spare fiber optic rods, a punch and tool kit, and a cleaning kit all ride along in the case. The Rival-S ships with five optic mounting plates that cover most popular micro red dot footprints, including common patterns like the Shield RMSc, Trijicon RMR, and Leupold DeltaPoint Pro. The slide cut is designed for co-witness with the iron sights, so you can keep the fiber optic front and adjustable rear in view as a backup. Check the plate chart in the manual to match your specific optic before mounting.
The biggest change is the frame. The standard Rival uses a polymer frame while the Rival-S is built on solid steel, adding close to a pound of weight. That extra mass noticeably flattens recoil and speeds up follow-up shots, which is exactly what you want in a competition or dedicated range pistol.
