The whole thing is cut from 3/8" AR500 steel, which is about as tough as target plate gets. AR500 is a through-hardened steel that shrugs off centerfire rifle impacts and keeps its shape instead of pitting or dishing out. Caldwell rates it up to 3,000 fps impact velocity and 3,500 ft-lb of impact energy, so it's happy running everything from rimfire plinking rounds up to serious rifle loads at safe distances.
