The Bushnell R7 1-8×24 was made for the woods you actually hunt in, not a spec sheet. Think Northwoods whitetail, Appalachian hardwoods, cedar swamps, and river bottoms where a deer steps out at 40 yards and you've got about two seconds to react. At true 1x with a wide 123-foot field of view, you keep both eyes open and get on target fast, and when a shot opens up across a clear cut or a burn, that 8x gives you the reach to stretch it out.
The glass is where this one earns its keep. ED Prime Glass improves contrast and color in the low-light windows that matter most, so you can tell a legal buck from a doe when the light is fading. The fiber-illuminated Multi-X reticle sits in the second focal plane, meaning it stays the same visual size no matter your magnification, and that bright center dot pulls your eye right where it needs to be in dark timber or against a bright hillside. Illumination runs through an 11-setting rotary dial with a 6-hour auto shutoff so you're not killing batteries between sits.
Built on a rugged 30mm tube, this scope is meant to shrug off truck rides, hard packouts, and heavy recoil. EXO Barrier is a molecular lens coating that sheds rain, snow, dust, and oil, so a quick swipe clears your view when the weather turns nasty. It's IPX7 waterproof and fully multi-coated, and it carries the Bushnell Lifetime Warranty behind it.
Turrets are capped with 1/4 MOA clicks and 25 MOA per revolution, giving you a generous 120 MOA of elevation travel. The caps protect your zero from bumps in the field, which is exactly what you want on a hunting rig you're not planning to dial constantly. A 3-position throw lever makes power changes quick with gloves on, and at 19.3 ounces and 11.2 inches long, it balances nicely on a lightweight bolt gun or a modern sporting rifle without turning it nose-heavy.
Yes, it opens up to a true 1x, which lets you shoot with both eyes open for fast, close-range target acquisition. Combined with the wide 123-foot field of view, that makes it well suited to snap shots in thick timber and brush. When you need more reach, the 8x top end covers shots across clear cuts and field edges.
This model (R7-1824A2) uses an illuminated Multi-X reticle in MOA, positioned in the second focal plane. Because it's SFP, the reticle stays the same visual size across the whole zoom range, keeping the sight picture clean and consistent. A fiber-lit center dot with 11 brightness settings helps it stand out in low light or against bright backgrounds.
The turrets are capped, which protects your zero from getting bumped during travel and rough hunts. Adjustments run in 1/4 MOA clicks with 25 MOA per revolution and 120 MOA of total elevation travel. This is a set-it-and-hunt design rather than a scope built for constant dialing.
It's built on a rugged 30mm tube, rated IPX7 waterproof, and treated with Bushnell's EXO Barrier coating that repels rain, snow, dust, and oil. That means a quick wipe clears your glass when conditions get messy. It also carries the Bushnell Lifetime Warranty for long-term peace of mind.
