Description

Anyone who has grabbed a suppressor after a couple magazines knows how fast these things turn into branding irons. A can heats up roughly 7 degrees per round with 5.56, so it does not take long before it will scorch a pant leg, melt a pack strap, or throw enough mirage to wreck your sight picture. The Burn Proof Gear Heavy Suppressor Cover exists to fix all of that, and it does the job better than just about anything else in the category.

How the BPG Heavy Cover Handles the Heat

This is a two piece system. The inner liner is fiberglass mesh sleeving rated to a 2000 degree maximum operating temperature, and it sits directly against the suppressor body to take the brunt of the heat. Over that goes the outer cover, built from aerospace grade fire retardant DuPont Kevlar. Between the two layers you get a thermal barrier that lets you transition the rifle across your body, sling up, or move through tight spaces without worrying about contact burns or cooked gear. It also knocks down heat mirage for precision work and cuts your IR signature under night vision.

Sizing the 5.5 Inch Heavy Suppressor Cover

The Heavy line is made specifically for suppressors measuring exactly 1.5 inches in diameter, and this 5.5 inch cover is cut a half inch longer than the can it protects, so it is the right pick for a suppressor right around 5 inches long. That extra half inch is the trick behind the no-slip fit, letting the cover cinch around both the front and rear of the suppressor so it stays locked in place shot after shot. Installed, it only adds about a quarter inch to the overall diameter, so it stays trim on the end of the rifle.

Built in the USA, Proven in the Field

Burn Proof Gear covers are made in the USA and have earned a strong reputation with hard-use rifle guys for a reason. They hold up to serious round counts, they do not creep forward toward the muzzle like cheaper wraps, and they work with common rifle calibers like 5.56 NATO, .300 BLK, and .308. One tip from experience: let the cover cool fully if it gets too hot to touch before resuming a heavy firing schedule, and it will serve you for a long time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Burn Proof Gear Heavy cover fit my suppressor?

The Heavy model is made for suppressors that measure exactly 1.5 inches in diameter, so measure your can before ordering. This 5.5 inch cover is intended for suppressors right around 5 inches long, since the cover is designed to run a half inch longer than the suppressor. If your can is a different diameter or an odd length, Burn Proof Gear offers other sizes and custom-made covers.

How does the cover stay in place during rapid fire?

The cover is cut a half inch longer than the suppressor, which lets it cinch down around both the front and rear of the can. That grip at both ends is what Burn Proof Gear calls the no-slip fit, and it keeps the cover from creeping toward the muzzle the way loose wraps tend to do. If a cover slides forward, it is a sign it was not installed properly.

How much heat can the BPG Heavy suppressor cover take?

It is a two layer system. The inner fiberglass mesh liner is rated to a 2000 degree maximum operating temperature, while the Kevlar outer shell handles roughly 180 rounds of sustained 5.56 fire before reaching its limit. For heavy firing schedules, the smart move is to let the cover cool completely once it becomes too hot to touch before continuing.

Does a suppressor cover affect accuracy or add much bulk?

If anything, it helps your shooting by cutting down the heat mirage that boils up off a hot can and distorts your sight picture, which matters a lot for precision work. Installed, the cover only adds about a quarter inch to the suppressor's diameter, so the total package stays around 1.75 inches. It also reduces IR signature for anyone running night vision.
