Anyone who has run an Obsidian9 hard on a PCC or suppressed pistol knows how fast that can heats up. Thirty rounds of quick fire and the tube is too hot to touch, plus you get that shimmering mirage washing out your sight picture. This Burn Proof Gear Heavy cover fixes both problems. It is cut to fit the Rugged Obsidian9 in its full-length configuration, with an 8 inch cover built for the can's 1.38 inch diameter, so you get a clean, purpose-built fit instead of a baggy one-size wrap.
The Heavy version is BPG's two-piece setup. The outer cover is made from Kevlar, Nomex, and other fire retardant materials rated to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, and underneath sits a fiberglass mesh inner sleeve rated past 2000 degrees. That combination shrugs off round counts that would cook lighter covers, and it knocks down the IR signature the can throws off under night vision. It also keeps hot metal from branding your leg, sling, or pack during transitions.
BPG covers are designed about a half inch longer than the suppressor so the cover can cinch down around the front and rear end caps. Pull the Kevlar bungee cord tight and the cover locks in place. No spinning, no walking forward, no fly-off downrange, which is a common complaint with cheaper elastic wraps. Once installed, it adds very little bulk over the tube, so the trim profile that makes the Obsidian9 so easy to live with stays mostly intact.
These covers are made in the USA and carry a serious reputation with military and law enforcement users who beat on their gear for a living. If you shoot your Obsidian9 in the long configuration and want to handle it sooner, see through your optic without mirage, and stop worrying about scorched gear, this is the cover to put on it. Give the can time to cool when it gets too hot to touch and this thing will outlast a mountain of ammo.
This 8 inch cover is sized for the Obsidian9 in its full-length configuration with the ADAPT module installed. BPG sizes covers roughly a half inch longer than the suppressor so the ends can cinch down behind the end caps. If you mostly run the can in its short setup, you would want a shorter cover instead.
Instead of relying on elastic alone, the cover cinches around the front and rear of the suppressor with a Kevlar bungee cord. Pull it tight behind the rear end cap and the cover will not slide, spin, or launch forward. That secure fit is one of the biggest reasons these covers get picked over cheaper wraps.
The Kevlar and Nomex outer shell is rated to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit, and the fiberglass inner sleeve is rated past 2000 degrees. That is enough for hard range sessions and rapid strings of fire. As a rule of thumb, if the can gets too hot to touch, give it a few minutes to cool before continuing.
Not much at all. On a 1.38 inch diameter can like the Obsidian9, the installed cover adds only a fraction of an inch to the overall diameter. It keeps the suppressor slim enough to stay handy on a pistol or PCC while still blocking heat mirage and protecting your hands and gear.
