This version is sized for slim M-LOK and KeyMod handguards, covering rail diameters from roughly 1.5 to 2 inches depending on shape, with about 5 inches of circumference coverage. The top Picatinny section stays exposed, so your optic, lights, and lasers mount right where they belong. The bungee lacing also doubles as handy cable management for pressure switches, and you can route the cords around whatever accessories you are running. It covers roughly 5 inches of circumference while leaving the top Picatinny rail exposed. If you are running a larger quad rail like an MK18 style handguard, look at the Rail-Rap Heavy instead.
Yes, the top Picatinny section stays completely uncovered, so optics, sights, and top-mounted accessories are unaffected. Many folks run it behind a weapon light or laser and use the bungee lacing to manage pressure switch cables. Keep in mind it does cover the side slots where it wraps, so plan your accessory placement around your grip area.
The proprietary DuPont Kevlar bungee cord is rated to 800 degrees Fahrenheit, and the wrap itself is sewn from Kevlar materials with Kevlar TEX-80 thread. It is designed for sustained fire where a bare aluminum rail would be too hot to hold. No tools at all. The wrap laces onto your handguard with the attached Kevlar bungee cord and cinches down tight so it will not shift under recoil. It comes off just as easily if you want to move it to another rifle or reposition it on the rail.
