The Air-Rail is part of Bowden's AR*chitect program, and the engineering focus really comes through in the field. It free-floats the barrel, so nothing touching the handguard, whether that's a bipod, sling tension, or your support hand, transfers force to the barrel and throws off your point of impact. The slim profile is comfortable to grip for long strings, and the open design does a good job shedding heat during extended sessions. This is the Full Flat Top (FFT) version, meaning you get an uninterrupted Picatinny rail running the length of the top for mounting optics, backup sights, or night vision gear in a straight, co-witnessed line.
Every Air-Rail ships with a pre-heat-treated 6061 aluminum barrel nut and the fastening hardware you need to get it mounted. Folks who've installed these report the process runs about half an hour with standard AR-15 tools, and the barrel nut threads on cleanly to mil-spec forged and billet uppers. The bore accommodates most low-profile gas blocks, so it plays nice with common build configurations. If you've built an AR before, you'll be at home here. If not, it's an easy job to hand off to a gunsmith.

This 13-inch version comes in at just 5.5 ounces, which makes it one of the lightest aluminum AR-15 handguards you can buy. That weight savings is the whole point of the Air-Rail line, and it's what gives lightweight builds their quick, balanced feel.
FFT stands for Full Flat Top, meaning the handguard has a continuous Picatinny rail running the full length of the top. That gives you an uninterrupted surface to mount optics, backup iron sights, or other gear in a straight, co-witnessed line. The other option in this series is a Competition top.
Each Air-Rail ships with a pre-heat-treated 6061 aluminum barrel nut and the fastening hardware needed to mount it. Most builders knock out the install in around 30 minutes using standard AR-15 tools. If you've never done a barrel nut before, it's an easy job for a gunsmith.
The Air-Rail is designed to clear most low-profile gas blocks, so it works with the majority of common AR-15 build configurations. As with any free-float rail, clamp-on style low-profile blocks can occasionally cause some interference, so it's worth checking your specific block's dimensions before you build.
