Bootleg Inc. made their name on gas key mods and adjustable carriers before stepping into receivers, and the Smuggler is their take on what a stripped lower should be. It's machined from 7075 billet aluminum and finished with MIL-SPEC hard anodizing, so it stands up to hard use while keeping that clean billet look. At 9.85 ounces it lands right in the sweet spot between rugged and lightweight, which is exactly what you want in a rifle you plan to run rather than hang on the wall.
The headline here is true ambidextrous operation. The included ambi bolt release knob and hardware let you drop the bolt from either side, a genuine quality-of-life upgrade whether you shoot lefty, work the gun from both shoulders, or just want quicker reloads. Rounding things out is a fully enclosed trigger guard for a comfortable grip and a lightly flared mag well that guides magazines home during fast changes.
Bootleg swapped the usual roll pins for hex-headed threaded pins on both bolt release knobs, which makes install and future maintenance a lot cleaner and far less likely to send a detent flying across your bench. There's also a hex head adjustable set screw at the rear lug so you can dial in a tight, wobble-free fit against any mil-spec upper, plus a dedicated hex set screw to hold the rear detent spring in place. If you've ever fought a takedown spring during assembly, that last touch alone earns its keep.
The Smuggler accepts any mil-spec lower parts kit and mates up with any mil-spec upper, so you have full freedom to spec the rifle however you like. Chambered for .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO builds, it's a versatile, thoughtfully designed starting point with real character baked in.
No, this is a stripped lower, so a full lower parts kit is not included. It does ship with the ambidextrous bolt release hardware, the hex head set screws, and the threaded pins. You'll need to add a standard mil-spec lower parts kit and the buffer/stock components to finish the build.
