The BLACKHAWK TecGrip FormLok is a genuinely different approach to inside-the-waistband carry. Instead of buying a holster and hoping it fits your gun, you mold this one to match your exact firearm. Size 05 is built for micro-compact pistols like the Glock 26, 43, 43X, Ruger LC9/EC9, Springfield Hellcat, and S&W Shield/Shield Plus models.
The molding process is simple enough that anyone can do it at home. Drop the holster into the included dunk bag and heat it in water to about 155-175 degrees Fahrenheit for a few minutes. Once the Memory-Lok core softens, slide your unloaded gun into the holster and use the included sight channel tool to shape it around your firearm's profile. As it cools, the thermoformable plastic sets to your gun's specific contours. If you want to remold it for a different gun later, just repeat the process.
What makes this holster work is how all the pieces stack up. Starting from the outside, there's a tacky TecGrip layer that grips your skin and clothing without needing a belt clip or wing attachment. Underneath that sits a high-density closed-cell foam that cushions your gun throughout the day. The molding process is straightforward. Place the holster in the included dunk bag and submerge it in water heated to 155-175 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes. Remove it carefully, insert your unloaded firearm, and use the included sight channel tool to shape the holster around your gun's profile. Press and mold around the trigger guard, ejection port, and other features while the material is still warm. Let it cool completely and you're done. If you need to remold it for a different gun later, just repeat the process.
Yes. The sight channel is low-cut and specifically optimized for mounted red dot sights, so you can run most RDS optics without issues. However, the holster isn't designed to be light-bearing, meaning larger weapon lights won't fit. Blackhawk did leave minimal clearance space in front of the trigger guard that might accommodate a small laser or compact light, but this should be tested during molding before relying on it.
Yes, that's one of the big advantages. You can remold the FormLok for different firearms as many times as you want. Just reheat it in the dunk bag and reshape it around your next gun. The TecGrip exterior layer is tacky material designed to grip your skin and clothing directly, so the holster clings to your waistband without needing a belt clip. That said, this style of carry works best with a properly fitted belt and snug waistband.
