Larry Vickers built his name on gear that works when it matters, and the Vickers 221 is the sling that does two jobs without asking you to carry two slings. It runs as a rock-solid two-point for comfortable carry and steady shooting, then converts to a single point the moment you need it by pulling the RED Swivel knob off the muzzle end and dropping it into the Burnsed Socket at the rear. The whole switch takes about a second, and the fast pull-tab adjustment keeps working in both modes so you can cinch it tight for a shot or loosen it to sling across your back.
The magic is the polymer Burnsed Socket woven onto the rear of the sling. It works with the patented RED (Rapid Emergency Detachment) Swivel, which is machined from steel with a phosphate coating for corrosion resistance and stainless internals. It releases without any fine motor skills, but it won't pop loose on you either since it takes around 7 pounds of straight-out pull to detach. That's the sweet spot between reliable and secure.
The webbing is Invista solution-dyed Cordura with ITW GhilleTex Acetal hardware, so the color runs through the fiber and the buckles shrug off abuse. The 2-inch inline shoulder pad is made from closed-cell foam that won't soak up water or gain weight in the rain, and it stays fixed in place instead of sliding around on you. Adjustable base length runs 57 to 67 inches, which means it fits over a plate carrier or a t-shirt and works on both compact and full-size rifles.
This one is set up for any weapon with two QD sling swivel sockets, with the rear socket sitting toward the end of the receiver. If your rifle uses a rear eyelet instead of a QD cup, like a lot of HK, SIG, or SCAR builds, you'll want a Universal Wire Loop with Push Button Socket to make it work. If you carry a heavier rifle or spend long days with it slung, the pad noticeably cuts shoulder fatigue. It's a small addition that pays off during extended use.
It's built to avoid that. The RED Swivel needs roughly 7 pounds of nearly straight-out pull to detach, so it won't pop loose during normal movement or shouldering. When you do need it, it releases fast without requiring any fine motor skills, which is the whole point of the rapid emergency detachment design.
