The BFR gets its name for a reason. Magnum Research builds this big-frame single action entirely in the USA, and like the Desert Eagle it was engineered from day one around heavy cartridges rather than adapted to them after the fact. Chambering .45-70 Government in a revolver takes a long cylinder and a whole lot of steel, and this platform has both. The result is a five-shot wheelgun that turns a proven lever-gun cartridge into a serious handgun hunting tool.
The 10 inch barrel is cut rifled and stress relieved, which is the slow, old-school way of doing it and the reason these guns shoot as well as they do with both lead and jacketed bullets. The 1:14 twist and .458 groove diameter are matched to the cartridge, and the long sight radius makes the factory adjustable rear and fixed front sights genuinely useful at hunting distances.
