Berger's 6mm BR Column Target bullet is a flat base projectile built around one thing: accuracy at short to mid-range distances. This is the kind of bullet that traces back to where Berger got its start, and it still earns its keep on the bench and at the loading press. At a nominal 64 to 65 grains in .243 diameter, it carries a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.231 and runs best out of barrels with a 1:14 twist or faster.
The tangent ogive profile is the quiet hero here. It makes these bullets forgiving to load, tune, and shoot, which means less time fighting seating depth and more time putting rounds where you want them. Berger builds them with J4 Precision Target jackets, the same jackets a lot of custom bullet makers reach for, and holds them to a total indicated runout of .0003 or less. That tight tolerance keeps the bullet balanced when it's spinning at high RPM, and balance is what separates a good group from a great one.
Flat base bullets like this one are a staple for folks hyper-focused on the smallest groups they can wring out of a rifle. They tend to do their best work inside 300 yards, where a boat tail doesn't buy you much and the flat base helps with consistency as the bullet leaves the muzzle. Chamberings like the 6mm BR Norma and similar short-range cartridges eat these up, and plenty of competitive benchrest guys lean on them for exactly that reason.
