These are the bullets a lot of serious long-range competitors reach for when score cards matter. The Berger 200.20X Hybrid Target is a .30 caliber, 200.2 grain projectile built around Berger's hybrid ogive, a nose profile that blends tangent and secant shapes to get the best of both. You end up with excellent aerodynamic efficiency and a bullet that isn't picky about exactly where you seat it, which is a real gift when you're chasing the perfect load.
This one didn't come out of a vacuum. It was developed alongside the U.S. Rifle Team (F-TR) and ran as the official bullet for team use at the 2017 F-Class World Championships. Berger's chief ballistician, Bryan Litz, had a hand in dialing in the geometry, and the result is a projectile tuned specifically for the weight class and performance F-TR and long-range folks have been gravitating toward. It carries a G1 BC of 0.64 and a G7 BC of 0.328, with a sectional density of 0.301, so it holds velocity and bucks wind well out at distance.
Every one of these runs a J4 Precision Target jacket, which is where a lot of Berger's reputation for tight tolerances comes from. The consistent core construction means you can skip the tedious weight-sorting ritual and trust the box to shoot the same bullet to bullet. It's a boat tail design with a 0.308 diameter and an overall length right around 1.508 inches.
To stabilize this 200.2 grainer you'll want a 1:11 inch twist or faster, which is important to check against your barrel before you commit a bunch of brass to the project. It's a natural fit for .308 Winchester and larger .30 caliber cartridges where you're pushing for every bit of downrange performance. Keep in mind these are component bullets for handloading, not loaded ammunition.
Berger lists a minimum twist of 1:11 inches or faster for this 200.2 grain bullet. If your barrel is slower than that, like a 1:12 or 1:13, you may run into stability issues, especially in colder or denser air. Check your barrel's twist before building a load around these.
These are component bullets intended for handloading only, not finished cartridges. You'll supply your own brass, primers, and powder to assemble loaded rounds. There are 100 projectiles in the box.
The hybrid ogive blends tangent and secant nose profiles, so you get the aerodynamic efficiency of a secant design with the easygoing, seating-depth-forgiving nature of a tangent. In practice that means less drama during load development and more consistent performance on target. It's a big reason this bullet earned its spot on the F-TR firing line.
This 200.2 grain .30 caliber bullet shines in .308 Winchester and larger .30 caliber cases where you want maximum long-range performance. It was optimized for F-TR competition but works well anywhere you're stretching distance. Just make sure your chosen cartridge can get it moving fast enough to stabilize with your barrel's twist.
