The Berger Elite Hunter .338 Cal 300gr Boat Tail is a heavy, high-BC hunting projectile aimed at folks pushing the .338 Lapua, .338 Edge, and other magnum .338 builds out to serious distance. It carries a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.814 and a G7 of 0.417, which is exactly what you want when the wind picks up and the range stretches past anything comfortable. The long hybrid nose and boat tail design keep this one flying true deep into the transonic range.
The hybrid ogive is the heart of this bullet. Near the bearing surface it runs a tangent profile, which makes it forgiving to tune and easier on seating depth, then it transitions to a secant shape for a flatter trajectory and reduced wind drift. It's the same ogive Berger uses on their Hybrid Target line, so you're getting match-grade geometry in a hunting bullet. These were developed through a partnership between Berger and Extreme Outer Limits TV, built specifically for extreme long range hunting with custom rifles.
Where the Elite Hunter separates itself is the thinner J4 Precision hunting jacket. That jacket lets the bullet drive 2 to 3 inches into an animal before it begins to open up, then it expands fast and sheds weight to create a large wound cavity and heavy hydrostatic shock inside the vitals. The goal is to dump energy where it counts for a quick, ethical kill rather than punching straight through.
This is a 300 grain, .338 diameter bullet with a sectional density of .375 and an overall length of 1.816 inches. Berger lists a minimum twist rate of 1:10 inches or faster to stabilize it properly, so make sure your barrel is up to the job before you start working up a load. Given the long nose, reloaders with longer magazines or those who single-feed will have the easiest time seating these where they shoot best.
