Description

The Berger EOL Elite Hunter 7mm 195 grain is the one you reach for when you're pushing a 7mm to the far edge of what it can do. Developed through a partnership between Berger and Bob Beck of Extreme Outer Limits TV, and designed by Bryan Litz, this projectile broke the old trend-line for heavy 7mm bullets. Most offerings in this caliber topped out around 180 grains, and this one adds 15 more without giving up efficiency. The payoff is a published G1 BC of 0.755 and a G7 of 0.387, the highest numbers Berger lists for the caliber.

What Makes the 195 gr EOL Elite Hunter Fly

The secret is Berger's hybrid ogive, the same nose design that's a favorite across competitive long-range disciplines. The bearing surface transitions into a tangent ogive, which keeps the bullet forgiving about seating depth, then shifts to a secant profile that cuts drag and fights wind. That long nose is what produces those class-leading ballistic coefficients. A 7 degree boat tail rounds things out, helping the bullet hold velocity and stay stable as it slows through the transonic range.

Terminal Performance You Can Count On

Where the Elite Hunter separates itself from the Hybrid Target line is the jacket. It uses a slightly thinner J4 Precision hunting jacket built to penetrate roughly 2 to 3 inches into the vitals before it starts expanding, then opens into a wide wound cavity. The result is serious hydrostatic shock and energy dumped where it counts, inside the animal.

Loading the Berger 195 gr Elite Hunter

This is a bullet for the hand loader who likes to tune a load. It has an overall length of 1.648 inches and a sectional density of 0.345, and Berger calls for a minimum 1:9" twist to stabilize it fully. Check your twist before you commit, because this bullet needs to be fully asleep to reach its published numbers. It shines in custom and extended-magazine 7mm rigs where the long nose has room to breathe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What twist rate do I need for the Berger 195 gr EOL Elite Hunter?

Berger specifies a minimum 1:9" twist to fully stabilize this bullet. Slower than that and you may still print groups, but you won't see the published BC because the bullet needs to be fully asleep to fly to its numbers. If you're running a faster twist like a 1:8", you'll have plenty of margin.

What makes the EOL Elite Hunter different from Berger's Hybrid Target bullets?

The two are nearly identical in construction, shape, and external performance. The key difference is that the Elite Hunter uses a slightly thinner J4 Precision hunting jacket designed for rapid, controlled expansion on game. That jacket is what gives it the terminal performance a target bullet isn't built to provide.

Why is this 195 grain bullet considered heavy for a 7mm?

Most heavy 7mm hunting bullets traditionally topped out around 180 grains, so the 195 grain EOL adds 15 grains to that. The extra weight is split between a longer bearing surface and a longer nose, which is how it reaches a 0.345 sectional density and the highest BCs Berger offers in the caliber. It was built for hunters chasing maximum downrange performance.

Is the Berger 195 gr Elite Hunter a good fit for a standard-magazine rifle?

The long hybrid ogive is designed with meticulous hand loaders in mind, often those with extended-length magazines or who single feed their ammunition. You can absolutely run it in a standard setup, but you'll want to check your magazine length and seating depth to make sure the nose has room to work. It performs at its best in custom and long-throated 7mm builds.
