Description

Bergara built its name making barrels for other rifle companies before it ever put its own name on a receiver, and that pedigree shows up in the B-14 Wilderness Sierra. This one comes chambered in .22 Creedmoor, the hot rod .224 caliber round made by necking down the 6.5 Creedmoor case. The result is heavy-for-caliber bullets moving fast, with a flat trajectory and very little recoil, which is why predator hunters and long range varmint folks have taken to it in a big way. The 1:8 twist barrel stabilizes the sleek high BC bullets that make this cartridge shine way out past where a .223 runs out of steam.

What Sets the Wilderness Sierra Apart

The Sierra stock is the big story here. It keeps the classic sporter lines but adds an adjustable comb, so you can dial in your cheek weld to match whatever scope height you end up running. The SoftTouch finish gives you a grippy, comfortable feel in wet or cold weather, and the slightly more vertical grip settles your hand naturally behind the trigger. Up front, the 20 inch No. 5 taper fluted barrel wears Sniper Grey Cerakote for serious weather protection, and the 5/8-24 threaded muzzle comes topped with Bergara's Omni brake to keep an already soft-recoiling cartridge planted so you can watch your own impacts.

A B-14 Action That Runs Like It Should

The B-14 action is one of the smoothest you'll find at this level. It is a two-lug design with a coned bolt nose and sliding plate extractor that feeds and ejects without drama, and the fluted bolt adds a nice touch while trimming a little weight. The Performance trigger breaks clean, the two-position safety is simple and positive, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for Remington 700 pattern bases, so mounting glass is easy. Rounds feed from an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate, four in the box, with nothing hanging below the stock line to snag on brush. Backed by Bergara's sub-MOA guarantee, this is a legitimate reach-out-there rig for coyotes, varmints, and ringing steel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the .22 Creedmoor good for, and what bullets does this Wilderness Sierra handle?

The .22 Creedmoor is a 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down to .224 caliber, which pushes bullets at serious velocity for a flat trajectory and low recoil. It has become a favorite for coyotes, long range varmints, and steel targets well past normal .22 centerfire distances. The 1:8 twist on this rifle stabilizes the heavier, high BC bullets in the 75 to 90 grain range that make the cartridge so effective at distance, while still handling lighter varmint loads.

Does the Bergara B-14 Wilderness Sierra use a detachable magazine?

No, this model feeds from an internal magazine with a hinged floorplate and holds 4 rounds. A lot of hunters prefer this setup in the field since there is no magazine to lose or snag on brush, and the bottom of the rifle stays clean and flush. You unload quickly by dropping the floorplate.

How do I mount a scope on the B-14 Sierra, and does the adjustable comb help with that?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for Remington 700 pattern bases and rings, so there is a huge range of mounting options available. The adjustable comb is a real advantage here because you can raise your cheek weld to line up perfectly behind larger scopes with taller mounts. Combined with the included length-of-pull spacers, you can fit this rifle to your build and your optic.

Is this rifle suppressor ready?

Yes, the muzzle is threaded 5/8-24, which is the common thread pitch for most .30 caliber and smaller suppressors and muzzle devices. The Omni muzzle brake comes installed from the factory, and it spins off easily if you want to run a can instead. The 20 inch barrel keeps overall length manageable even with a suppressor attached.
