Mountain rifles usually force a trade. Go light and give up stability, or carry the weight and feel it on every climb. Bergara built the B-14 Crest to split that difference, starting with a monocoque stock made entirely of carbon fiber using CF-RTM technology, the same resin injection process used in aerospace and automotive work. Dry carbon fibers are laid by hand, then injected with resin, and a carbon spine runs the length of the stock to keep it rigid where a hollow shell would flex. The result is a platform that keeps this .300 PRC at a manageable 7.25 pounds without shooting like a wet noodle.
The company made its name building barrels for other manufacturers before it ever put its own rifles on shelves, and the Crest gets the full treatment. The 22 inch fluted 4140 chrome moly barrel wears a #5 profile, carries a 1:9 twist that stabilizes the heavy, high-BC bullets the .300 PRC was designed around, and comes backed by Bergara's sub-MOA guarantee with quality factory ammo. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and ships with the Omni brake installed, which takes a real bite out of magnum recoil. Prefer to run a suppressor? Spin the brake off and you are ready to go.
The B-14 action is a smooth two-lug design with a coned bolt nose and sliding plate extractor, and the fluted bolt keeps things cycling clean in nasty weather. Feeding comes from a detachable 5 round AICS pattern magazine, so spares are easy to find. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Remington 700 pattern mounts, the curved Performance trigger breaks crisp around three pounds, and a two-position safety keeps operation simple with gloves on. Every metal surface wears Sniper Gray Cerakote, which shrugs off the sleet and grit that ruin blued finishes.
For elk, moose, or open country mule deer where shots stretch out and ounces count on the way in, the Crest in .300 PRC is a legitimately capable rig that will not wreck your shoulders before you ever pull the trigger.
Yes. Bergara backs its B-14 rifles with a sub-MOA guarantee, meaning groups of 1 MOA or better at 100 yards with quality factory match-grade ammunition. Their reputation was built on barrel making, and the honing and rifling work on the Crest's 22 inch fluted barrel reflects that.
You can. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, which is the most common thread pitch for .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Just remove the factory Omni brake and thread on your can, and a thread protector is included if you want to run the muzzle bare.
The receiver is drilled and tapped for Remington 700 pattern bases and rings, so your mounting options are about as wide open as it gets. Given the .300 PRC's long-range purpose, most owners pair it with a quality rail and a scope in the 3-15x or 4-20x range.
The .300 PRC produces stout magnum recoil, similar to .300 Win Mag, but the factory Omni brake noticeably tames it, and the Monte Carlo comb on the carbon stock keeps the rifle tracking straight back. Most hunters find it very manageable from field positions with the brake on. It is a cartridge that rewards good fundamentals and delivers serious downrange energy in return.
