The Beretta 80X Cheetah Tactical is what happens when a beloved classic gets a proper, no-compromise update. The original Cheetah line earned a devoted following for its smooth DA/SA action, all-metal construction, and distinctly Italian character. After a hiatus that ended in 2023, Beretta came back with the 80X platform, and this Tactical variant takes things even further.
The standout feature here is the 4.40" threaded barrel cut to 1/2×28, the same thread pitch shared by most .380 ACP and rimfire suppressors. Because the 80X uses a fixed-barrel blowback action, it's an especially clean suppressor host since you don't need a Nielsen device or booster like you would with a tilting-barrel design. The optic-ready slide uses Beretta's plate system, compatible with Shield RMSc and Holosun footprint adapters, so mounting a micro red dot is a simple plate swap and not a mill job. Front and rear sawtooth serrations make the slide easy to rack, and the serrated slide profile itself is noticeably more positive to grab than the old 80-series guns.
The frame is blue anodized aluminum with a slim Vertec-style grip profile. Beretta pulled the Vertec geometry from the 92-series Vertec pistols, which straightens the backstrap and gives the pistol a more natural point of aim for anyone coming from a modern handgun. The extended beavertail sits high and lets you get a proper grip without riding the slide. A two-slot Picatinny rail on the dustcover handles weapon lights or lasers without adding bulk to the grip. The ambidextrous frame-mounted safety doubles as a decocker, a significant real-world improvement over the slide-mounted safeties on the older Cheetah models.
The X-treme S trigger is a DA/SA unit with a skeletonized hammer and DLC-coated internals. The overtravel is adjustable, allowing you to shorten the reset down to 1mm. Multiple reviewers and independent testers have called it one of the best DA/SA triggers on a production pistol, and the long-but-light DA pull is accurate enough for precise work right out of the box. Takedown mirrors the Beretta 92 process, using a lever to release the slide, and notably does not require pulling the trigger to disassemble.
This Baby Blue variant ships with two extended magazines. It's a compact pistol built for shooters who want .380's forgiving recoil in a well-made, metal-framed package that's ready for an optic, a light, and a suppressor without any aftermarket modification.
The barrel is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for .380 ACP and rimfire suppressors. Because the 80X uses a fixed-barrel blowback action rather than a tilting barrel, you don't need a Nielsen device or booster on your suppressor, which simplifies the setup considerably. Keep in mind the stock iron sights are not suppressor-height, so you'll want to run an optic or swap to taller sights when shooting suppressed.
The 80X Cheetah Tactical uses Beretta's optic plate system, with factory plates available for the Shield RMSc footprint and the Holosun K-series footprint (507K, 407K). The Shield plate also covers the SIG Romeo Zero and Shield-cut Holosun K-series variants. Installation is a plate swap under the rear cover rather than any permanent milling, so it's quick and clean.
It's genuinely well-suited for that. The .380 ACP chambering, heavier-than-average aluminum frame, and Beretta's tuned slide weight and spring rates all work together to keep recoil soft and follow-up shots fast. It handles noticeably more like a full-size pistol than a typical compact .380, which means less muzzle flip and less fatigue during longer range sessions. Range reviewers consistently noted it shoots softer than expected for a blowback-operated pistol.
The first shot fires double-action with a longer, heavier pull, then the hammer stays cocked for subsequent shots in single-action mode with the short, crisp X-treme S trigger. The frame-mounted ambidextrous safety also functions as a decocker, so you can safely lower the hammer on a loaded chamber by engaging it an extra notch. This is a meaningful upgrade over the original Cheetah models, which had no decocker at all.
They will fit, but Beretta recommends against using them for anything other than FMJ practice ammo. Beretta redesigned the magazine follower, spring, and feed lips on the 80X to ensure reliable feeding with hollow-point defensive ammunition, and the older 84-series magazines don't share those improvements. For reliable carry use, stick with the factory 80X magazines.
Because the 80X Cheetah Tactical has a Picatinny rail on the dustcover and the longer 4.4" barrel, holsters made for the original Cheetah or Model 84 will not fit. You'll need holsters specifically designed for the 80X Cheetah or the 80X Cheetah Tactical. Beretta has released a few dedicated holster options, and several Kydex makers have introduced 80X-specific fits as the gun has grown in popularity.
