The Silver Pigeon has been the go-to crossover over-and-under for more than 35 years, and the Vittoria Sporting takes that platform and fits it to shooters who never quite got along with a standard-dimension stock. Beretta trimmed the length of pull to about 13 3/4 inches, tightened the pistol grip radius, and raised the comb into a semi-Monte Carlo profile with 35/45/55 drop. The result is a gun that mounts naturally for women and smaller-framed shooters without giving up anything the 686 action is known for.
The stock is Grade 2 European walnut with an oil finish, and the B-Fast adjustable comb lets you dial in height, drop, and cast until your eye lines up right down the rib every time. An Extralight recoil pad takes the sting out of long practice sessions, which matters more in a sub-7-pound 20 gauge than most people expect. Up front, the 30-inch barrels give you the sight plane and follow-through that sporting clays reward, topped with a vented rib, white front bead, and steel mid bead.
Beretta builds these barrels from their tri-alloy steel using deep drilling, cold hammer forging, and vacuum distension, with a lengthened forcing cone that smooths out recoil and tightens patterns. The Optimabore HP profile is designed to pattern well with lead, steel, and high-performance loads alike. The 2024 update to the 686 also brought a redesigned top lever that opens and closes with noticeably less effort, a polished stainless steel trigger, and richer floral engraving that now flows across the receiver tail and hinge pins.
