The beavertail extends your grip up to the web of your thumb and forefinger. This higher grip position delivers a more secure hold on the pistol, which translates to better recoil management and improved shooting confidence. When combined with proper grip technique, the design reduces slide bite and enhances overall accuracy by giving you more positive control over the gun during recoil.
The part cuts to .245" to accommodate .250" radius frames like those from STI, Kimber, and Brown. EGW built in several improvements you won't find on every beavertail: the pin hole is reamed to .158" for better fit and ambidextrous safety function, the bottom surface is lower so you don't need to cut into the thumb safety hole, and the width at the frame ears is .308-.309" to prevent side-to-side rattle. The fully blank engagement pad gives you room to shape it to your preference.
This is not a drop-in part. You'll need to fit and blend it to your frame, which means taking your time with the tangs and finishing work. The upside is that the solid construction and thoughtful dimensions make this much easier than dealing with loose-fitting alternatives. The part will fit a Ruger SR1911 with minimal fitting work. Note that it's not compatible with Wilson's beavertail cuts, and if you're working with a Springfield or Caspian frame, you'll need to weld the tangs.
