The Grip Mod 3 KD came from a collaboration between BCM and Kyle Defoor, founder of Defoor Proformance Shooting. This short-profile variant keeps the proven ergonomic advantages of the full-size Mod 3 while trimming the length to work better with compact platforms.
What makes this grip stand out is its reduced angle, which keeps your wrist lined up naturally with the trigger. That's different from older A2-style grips that can make you cant your hand unnaturally. The Mod 3 KD sits higher and feels more vertical, which matches how modern shooting technique works. The extended forward tang fills the gap between the trigger guard and grip, and the high-rise beavertail backstrap gives solid control without requiring much thought about hand placement.
The KD's low-profile design means it has the same protrusion as a standard 20-round magazine. That keeps it from snagging when you're moving between cover or working in tight spaces, and it prevents the grip from getting caught when you're carrying or stowing your rifle. Customers who build AR pistols and short-barreled carbines have found this sweet spot after running longer grips on those platforms.
Inside the grip is a hinged storage compartment sealed with a water-resistant rubber gasket, which is useful for small items without adding bulk. The grip is made from impact-resistant polymer and has aggressive checkering across the surface to keep a solid hold even when your hands are wet or sweaty. The whole thing comes test-fit from the factory to make sure it functions before shipping. Made in the USA.
The KD (Kyle Defoor) version is significantly shorter than the standard Mod 3, designed specifically for sub-compact builds. It's dimensioned to match the protrusion of a 20-round magazine, making it ideal for AR pistols and short-barreled carbines where longer grips get in the way.
It's designed for mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers and should fit without issues on most standard builds. That said, BCM grips are known for tight tolerances, which keeps them from moving but occasionally requires a snug installation. If you're using a billet lower, the extended tang might need minor trimming.
The hinged compartment is sealed with a water-resistant rubber gasket and holds small items like batteries, cleaning picks, or spare parts. You access it through the hinged trap door on the bottom of the grip. Note that the standard Mod 3 KD doesn't come with a removable bottom cap like some other BCM grips.
The reduced grip angle and wider profile than Mod 0 and Mod 1 keep your wrist naturally aligned with the trigger, which reduces fatigue over time. The high-rise beavertail and checkered surface provide solid control. Most users find it comfortable for extended shooting, though fit and feel vary based on hand size.
