The Battle Arms Development Xiphos receiver set gives you a dedicated 9mm platform right out of the gate. Instead of trying to adapt a 5.56 lower to run pistol rounds, BAD built this one from scratch around blowback operation and small-frame Glock-style magazines. Both halves are precision CNC-machined from billet 7075-T6 aerospace aluminum, then hit with a MIL-A-8625 Type III hard anodized black finish that holds up to the kind of abuse a range gun sees. The matched upper and lower share the same lines and signature notch cut, so the whole thing looks like it was meant to go together, because it was.
The standout here is how much weight BAD carved out without giving up strength. The lower uses skeletonized geometry and relief cuts placed exactly where the material isn't doing structural work, which keeps the build light for hauling around all day at a match or in the field. You get a flared magazine well for faster reloads, an integrated trigger guard, and an upper tension screw to snug up the fit between the two receivers. It's cut for standard TDP/mil-spec AR fire control parts, so your favorite trigger, safety, and small parts drop right in. The safety selector area is machined with a relief cut for BAD's own short-throw ambidextrous safety selectors if you want to run those.
Since it feeds from small-frame Glock magazines, you're looking at some of the cheapest and most available pistol-caliber mags out there, which makes range days a lot easier on the wallet. This is a blowback design, so keep in mind it is not compatible with CMMG-style delayed blowback systems that use AR-pattern magazines and bolt carriers. The upper runs a minimalist billet design with a full-length Picatinny top rail and no forward assist, which suits a clean pistol-caliber build.
