Battle Arms Development made its name building high-end parts for competitive shooters, so when they set out to build a budget duty rifle, they didn't cut corners where it counts. The Workhorse-LT keeps the same forged 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum receivers and 16 inch 4150 chrome-moly steel barrel with a black nitride finish that the rest of the Workhorse line is known for. The .223 Wylde chamber is a nice touch at this level too, letting you run both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO while squeezing better accuracy out of match-grade loads.
Every barrel is individually head-spaced with a matching 9310 steel bolt and an 8620 black nitride carrier, which is the kind of attention to detail you usually see on rifles costing quite a bit more. The nitride treatment on the bolt carrier group and barrel makes cleanup quick and keeps corrosion at bay. Battle Arms also worked in a handful of their upgraded parts, including a smooth nickel Teflon coated trigger, an enhanced magazine release with one-piece mag catch, an enhanced bolt catch, and enhanced takedown and pivot pins that let you break the rifle down without tools.
The free-float 7 inch M-LOK handguard gives you a full-length Picatinny rail up top and plenty of room for a light or hand stop, while keeping the front end light and quick to point. The flat-top upper is optics ready, so plan on adding a red dot, LPVO, or a set of backup irons to round it out. A B5 Systems Bravo six-position stock and classic A2 grip finish off the furniture, and a 30-round magazine gets you started at the range.
