Barrett took everything people love about the MRAD and asked a simple question: what if you already know exactly what caliber you want? The answer is the SMR, short for Single Mission Rifle. Instead of the multi-caliber barrel swap system, this one is set up from the factory in .338 Lapua Magnum and stays that way, with a free-floated 26 inch fluted match-grade barrel secured in the upper receiver with a standard barrel nut. Dropping the caliber-conversion hardware and folding stock mechanism slims the rifle down and shaves roughly 2.5 pounds compared to the standard MRAD, all while keeping about 90 percent parts commonality and the same .75 MOA accuracy guarantee.
The monolithic upper receiver is machined from 7000-series aluminum with a full-length 21.75 inch M1913 Picatinny rail up top, complete with built-in taper so you have plenty of elevation for stretching the .338 Lapua way out there. The 1:9.4 twist barrel stabilizes the heavy match bullets this cartridge was built around, and the whole thing wears a Tungsten Gray Cerakote finish that holds up to real field use. The trigger is a fully adjustable match-grade module you can tune to your preference, and the thumb safety and controls are laid out to be intuitive from either side.
Fixed does not mean one-size-fits-all here. The buttstock carries a vertically adjustable cheek piece so you can get proper eye alignment behind a big scope, plus spacers for length of pull adjustment. Once it is set for you, it stays put, which is exactly what you want for repeatable positioning shot after shot.
The rifle ships with one 10-round magazine for a 10+1 capacity, and the muzzle is set up to accept Barrett's suppressor-capable MRAD SMR brakes.
