The MRAD earned its reputation as one of the most respected precision rifle platforms out there, and the SMR (Single Mission Rifle) takes that same DNA and commits it to one job: putting .338 Lapua Magnum rounds exactly where you want them at serious distance. Barrett trimmed away the caliber-swap hardware and folding stock mechanism of the standard MRAD, and what you get is a rifle that shares roughly 90 percent of its parts with its big brother while shedding close to two and a half pounds and about an inch of overall length. Same .75 MOA accuracy standard, simpler package.
The heart of this rifle is a 26-inch fluted match-grade barrel with a 1:9.4 twist, free-floated and secured in the monolithic 7000-series aluminum upper with a standard barrel nut. That rigid receiver carries a full-length 21.75-inch Picatinny top rail with built-in taper, so mounting a long-range optic and dialing for distance is straightforward from day one. The bolt rides in an enclosed polymer bolt guide, which keeps the action running smooth even when dust and grit would bind a traditional design. M-LOK slots along the fore-end handle bipods, lights, and whatever else your setup calls for.
Fixed does not mean one-size-fits-all here. The buttstock uses a vertically adjustable cheek piece and removable spacers for length of pull, so you can set it up for a proper cheek weld behind glass and leave it locked in. Pair that with the match-grade trigger, thumb-operated safety, and a familiar AR-style pistol grip you can swap to taste, and this rifle settles in behind the bag like it was built for you.
The .338 Lapua Magnum is the classic answer when targets sit way past where most magnums run out of steam, holding supersonic well beyond 1,500 meters with the right load. Fed from a 10-round magazine with 10+1 capacity, this SMR is a legitimate tool for extreme long-range work, whether that is steel at a mile or a serious match rifle you can trust round after round.
No, and that is the whole point of the SMR. The Single Mission Rifle is set up from the factory in one caliber with the free-floated barrel held in the upper by a standard barrel nut. Dropping the caliber-conversion hardware is how Barrett made the SMR slimmer and lighter while keeping about 90 percent parts commonality with the standard MRAD.
Barrett builds the MRAD SMR to the same .75 MOA accuracy standard as the standard MRAD. The 26-inch fluted match-grade barrel, rigid monolithic upper receiver, and match-grade trigger all contribute to that repeatability. With quality match ammo and good fundamentals, this rifle will stretch well past 1,500 meters.
Yes. While it does not fold like the standard MRAD stock, it has a vertically adjustable cheek piece for dialing in your cheek weld and removable spacers to fine-tune length of pull. Once it is set for your build, it stays put, which a lot of precision guys actually prefer for consistency.
