Description

There are precision rifles, and then there is the MRAD. This is the folding stock configuration that earned Barrett the Army's Advanced Sniper Rifle contract and became the foundation for the Mk22, here in Tungsten Grey Cerakote with a 17 inch fluted barrel chambered in .308 Winchester. The shorter tube keeps the whole package quick to maneuver and easy to suppress, while the 1:8 twist stabilizes a wide range of match bullets. Fluting sheds weight and helps the barrel cool between strings, and the two port muzzle brake takes the edge off recoil so you can spot your own impacts.

What Makes the MRAD Different

The barrel system is the headline. Loosen two bolts with a standard Torx wrench and the barrel comes out, which means you can swap calibers or lengths at your bench without a trip to a gunsmith. The trigger is a self-contained match grade module that drops out for cleaning or adjustment, and the thumb safety can be set up for left or right handed use. The ambidextrous mag release lets you run reloads without breaking your firing grip or cheek weld. Up top, the monolithic 7000 series aluminum receiver wears a full length 21.75 inch Picatinny rail with built-in taper, leaving plenty of real estate for big scopes and clip-on night vision.

A Folding Stock That Locks Up Solid

Plenty of folding stocks feel like an afterthought. This one locks in rigid enough that you would swear it was fixed, and when folded it latches around the bolt handle so nothing rattles loose in transit. Because it folds to the bolt side, the rifle stays the same overall width either way. Length of pull adjusts across five positions with a single button, and the polymer cheek piece gives you the same contact point shot after shot.

Feeding the Barrett MRAD .308

Two 10 round magazines come in the box, and .308 Winchester means match ammo, hunting loads, and practice fodder are all easy to find. Whether it lands in your safe as a serious long range tool or the centerpiece of a collection, this grey fluted folder is the MRAD that started it all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change calibers on the Barrett MRAD myself?

Yes, and that is the whole point of the platform. The barrel is held in place by two bolts you can remove with a standard Torx wrench, so swapping to a different Barrett MRAD barrel assembly takes just a few minutes at your bench. It lets one rifle cover everything from short-barreled .308 work to full-length magnum shooting.

Is the folding stock on the MRAD stable enough for precision shooting?

It is. When extended, the stock locks up as rigid as a fixed stock, giving you a consistent platform shot to shot. Folded, it latches around the bolt handle for secure transport, and since it folds to the bolt side, the rifle stays the same overall width either way.

Is a 17 inch barrel long enough to get good performance out of .308?

For most practical distances, absolutely. You give up some velocity compared to a 22 or 24 inch tube, but .308 still performs well out to 800 yards and beyond from a 17 inch barrel with quality match ammo. The tradeoff buys you a much handier rifle, especially with a suppressor attached, and the 1:8 twist stabilizes heavy match bullets without issue.

How is this MRAD different from the military Mk22?

This is the original folding stock MRAD design that Barrett built the Mk22 Advanced Sniper Rifle on for the military. The Mk22 is a specific multi-caliber military configuration, while this 18495 model is the commercial version in .308 Win with a 17 inch fluted barrel and Tungsten Grey Cerakote. Same core action, same barrel swap system, same folding stock design.
