There are precision rifles, and then there is the MRAD. Barrett built this platform to meet the military's Precision Sniper Rifle requirements, and the design that grew out of it went on to win the MK22 Advanced Sniper Rifle contract. This version pairs that pedigree with .300 Norma Magnum, a cartridge that stays supersonic well past distances where most magnums run out of steam. The 26 inch fluted barrel wears a 1:8 twist that stabilizes the long, high BC bullets this caliber was made for, and the whole rifle is finished in Tungsten Gray Cerakote.
The headline feature is the user-changeable barrel system. Loosen two bolts with a standard Torx wrench and the barrel comes out, no gunsmith needed, which opens the door to running other calibers and barrel lengths on the same receiver down the road. The monolithic upper is machined from 7000 series aluminum with a full-length 21.75 inch Picatinny rail up top, giving you room for a big scope plus clip-on night vision or thermal in front of it. The M-LOK handguard takes accessory rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, and the match-grade trigger module drops out easily for adjustment and maintenance.
Plenty of folding stocks feel like a compromise. This one locks up as rigid as a fixed stock when deployed, and when folded it latches around the bolt handle so nothing flops around in transit. Length of pull adjusts to five positions at the push of a button, and the polymer cheek piece dials in your head position for a repeatable weld behind the glass. The thumb safety can be set up for either side, and the ambidextrous paddle magazine release works without breaking your firing grip.
At 14.5 pounds bare, this is a rifle meant to be shot from a bipod or barricade, where that weight soaks up .300 Norma recoil and keeps you on target for follow-up shots. Feeding comes from 10 round magazines, and you get two of them in the box along with a hard case.
Yes, that is the whole idea behind the platform. The barrel is held in with two bolts that come out with a standard Torx wrench, so you can swap to a different caliber or barrel length at home with a conversion kit. The same lower accepts magazines across the MRAD caliber family, which makes switching setups simple.
This rifle ships with two of Barrett's proprietary 10 round magazines, giving you a 10+1 capacity with one in the chamber. It also comes in a hard case with accessory rail sections and sling swivels, so you are not starting from zero on day one.
No. When extended, the stock locks into place with the same rigidity as a fixed stock, so your cheek weld and shoulder pressure stay consistent shot to shot. Folded, it latches around the bolt handle for secure transport, and since it folds to the bolt handle side, the rifle stays the same overall width either way.
It ships optic ready with no iron sights or scope included. The full-length 21.75 inch Picatinny rail has built-in taper for long range dialing and leaves plenty of real estate for a scope plus an in-line night vision or thermal device. Plan on a quality optic and rings rated for magnum recoil.
